Guard your rims!

Last night I headed down the the parking garage below my condo complex to hop in my rental (which totally sucks compared to my poor baby that's in the body shop) and two cars down from me was a brand new BMW M3 that had been jacked up and had all 4 tires & rims stolen! A cop was there with the kid looking for fingerprints and such.

Makes me grateful that I just have the stock rims on my CL. It's strange because I live in a really nice group of condos and I figured my car would be safe underground in a fully lit garage. Apparently not.

The motto of this story. Keep an eye on your rims. I dunno if this dude had wheel locks but if he did, the thieves seemed to have gotten past them pretty easily. Poor guy.

I've seen pics of a GT2 on blocks in a gated underground garage for million dollar condos on the 6speedonline forums. It just proves the fact that, no matter what...if a thief really wants it...they're gonna find a way to get it...regardless.

The wheel locks are easy to remove with a special tools you can purchase from Snap On, Matco, or MAC Tools. When I was wrenching for a rent a car company, we used to use the wheel lock removers on cars where the keys were lost by the tourists And there are other ways to remove them....locks are only to slow the thieves down....unfortunately....

I think an upscale area is a good spot for people to steal things, cuz its least expected. My boy also had his Bimmer broken into at an underground parking garage in a very upscale area, they stole pretty much the entire sound system and you can tell they tried to get the rims but couldn't finish the job.

It's sad. Especially after someone obviously puts a lot of time and effort into their car.

A friend and myself took some Acura wheel locks off using a over sized socket. It was surprisingly easy, quick and effective method when the previous owner lost the wheel lock key.

Basically locks, alarms, etc simply deters thieves. It will definitely make them reconsider for an easier target. But if they already set their targeted consider it good as gone.
