Got an outrageous quote on T-belt Water pump

my 3.0 has 106K and its time to change the timing belt and water pump.. i was under the impression that it cost about 400 to change the 2 labour included..
I phoned acura just right now... and they quoted me 850 to change the water pump and timing belt telling me its almost 6 hours of labour.

how much did you guys pay?

Last November, new Honda Dealership in Concord, NH, $425 for new timing belt, tensioner belt AND water pump, all factory parts! The Acura Dealer by me quoted me the highest at $725- shop around.

only reason i go to acura for oil changes is because they give me a free car wash when i ask for it...
Except one time... where i got pissed and wrote a complaint because they said they would wash it but after 4 hours for oil change they still never washed it.

its not too bad considering the parts (timing belt 50$, waterpump 80$, tensioner 50$, valvecover gaskets 20$ each x2, camshaft seals 10$ x2, forward shaft seal 10$, sparkplug tube seals 20$, thats easily 270$ in parts alone. unless they are only changin the belt and waterpump.. which all these other things are accessable when you do the timing belt, and usually are leaking at this time. but 400$ isnt to bad. he's gonna go up on the price and say it took longer than expected, or that you need new shit. just cause thats how mechanics are....and is why i do all my own shit.

I was just in for an oil change and the dealer told me "we start recommending a timing belt change after 60,000"......I've never heard of such a thing, I'm at 68,000 and its the furthest thing from my mind.

Ten minutes is pretty reasonable for an oil change. $375 was what I paid on my Teggy, but the CL's was done right before I bought it.

Paid about 200 in parts and got family friend to do it for a lot cheaper. Canadian dollar.

Acura wanted the same amount you said above.

Hey Nato, I live in toronto too...just had my timing belt, tensioner, water pump done earlier this summer. I know a mechanic that works at acura in markham, he'll do the work for you at his house and he gets a discount off parts. Let me know if you want more info, he lives in the markham & sheppard area.

Same here man. Its a bit expensive in NoVA ($35), but the wash/dustmop/vaccume interior is totally worth the extra cash. PS. If anyone else is in NoVa go to Pohanka Acura in Chantilly. I've been to 4 other dealerships in the area and Pohanka is the only one worth dealing with.
