Is this is a good deal ??

Hi all,
I am in the market for a cl and this lady has a 1997 Acura cl 3.0 with the works (38,000 miles ) DK. green. She wants $15K for it and i think that is kinda high but can anyone let me know if that is reasnable for a private party and if so how much lower can I go? Thanks all.

Jaabs.

The book value on my car is 17k. I have a lease and will be buying it from the dealer for 14k. I would say check www.edmunds.com and find out what the value of the car is with them.

BTW.. I posted that so you can use it as a guide. You can also check www.kbb.com . They redid their site so now you can look up the Private Party Value, which is what you can expect to pay when buying from an individual.....

I think 15k is a good price to pay. The car shouldnt have any problems cause its been under the 4 year warranty since her ownership, i would assume.

for a 3.0 at that low of a price. u might want to bring to car into service, cost about $50, because it will tell you what is good or needs fixing... i paid 18K (after tax and DMV fees) for my 2.2 CL (49000). it was under the bluebook at about ($15). the care itself was &16k.

Price will also depend on where you live. You can't get cars for very cheap around DC, especially Acuras. You get what you pay for, but seeing that you live in "Network Manager", as it says in your profile the price might fit ya. Just run it online like the posts above say.

That seems okay.

I'm looking right now too and I've seen a variety of prices, so it's hard to get a good read on what is "good" here in southern CA. I looked at a 98 2.3 CL last weekend with about 30K miles on it and the dealer price (read as way overpriced) was around $15K (before taxes and all that BS). I figure private party I could get it for around $13K. I've looked at 3.0's (most seem to be 98's) with about the same 30K mileage and they seem to be around $15-$16K.

Right now I've got a guy that goes to the dealer auctions (not the cheesy public ones) and he figures he can get a 98 3.0 for around $13K - $14K and a 98 2.3 for around $12-$13K. A lot depends on the weird factors at auctions. One thing is color. If they are mostly seeing black for weeks on end and suddenly a white comes through, people tend to jump on that just because it seems rare. Also depends if there are other guys like him that have clients that are looking for the same thing because they end up bidding against one another while everyone else watches.

We'll see how I do. I'm looking for white or silver, so it's a waiting game since most seem to be black or green lately...

Thanks all for the replies but even I think this is a high. I just saw the car and she has taken excellent care of it. Are the insurance rates high on this one and is this a prime candidate for grand theft auto. Also I live in NJ.
Thanx,

Jaabs.

P.S. Fixed the location goof, thanks.
