Well the thing about using one type of gas all the time is that their deposits will start to build up in your tank which could lead to a couple of problems. You should change gasoline types every 5000 miles about. That way the new gas will most likely have different deposits in it that will clean out the old deposits.
Basically saying that I never keep to one type of gas for too long

Example.
My CL has 0 miles on it and I give my car it's first tank of gas. I go to Shell and fill up. Now shell makes their own additives for their gasoline, say they use a, b, and c deposits.
I drive around and always fill up with shell as much as possible during the next 5000 miles. My car now has 5000 miles..
I take my car to 76, where I am pretty sure they use their own additives too. I fill up with 76 gasoline where they add x, y, and z. During the next 1000 miles or so; x, y, and z are continuously cleaning out a, b, and c because those are 'foreign' deposits left in the tank. Now my car is rolling up on 10,000 miles. By now, the a, b, and c deposits are all gone; but now I have a tank full of 76's deposits, x, y, and z.
Well what do I do? I switch back to Shell gasoline and start the process all over again.
Don't get me wrong, of course a little bit of deposit is going to be left over everytime, but this is basically a way to insure that you will never have a tank always full of one gasoline's deposits.

You would question our wonderful moderator?
This makes perfect sense. I'm going to a new gas station today! Getting ready to hit 70,000 miles

Well if you do a quick search on yahoo or any search engine, you would come by this one thread by a chemist. I will try and find it a little later, but basically he says the same thing as above.
I've been doing this for a while now and it does seem to make my car run a little bit "cleaner" My engine seems to run a little bit more smoothly and my problem with the low rpms, as mentioned in the thread about problems with the CL so far, seem to go away a little bit. Doesn't hurt does it?
EDIT: Oh, just make sure that you use bigger named stations though. Some, well most actually..smaller gasoline stations buy their gas from producers such as Shell and stuff so their additives would be the same.

I was reading a article about two months ago about how different octanes affect different engines. They did about 8 tests on different cars on horsepower and gas mileage. The only vehicle that had positive effects from using the cheaper gas was the 98 accord with the same 3.0 engine in our cls. There was a little bit more horsepower and better gas mileage. Just some useful knowledge.

I used 87 on my CL. Sometimes I went with 89, depending on prices.
I'm currently using 93 in my TL-S. Sunoco is the only brand I used in either car. My fiance had knocking in her car using Mobile1, so ever since then she's been using Sunoco as well and says her car is running a lot better and the knocking stopped. That was about 3 years ago!!
