It's worth it. I had mine done a couple months ago. It didn't look like the timing belt was changed once in it's 160k life.

Holy shit... My car only has 73k miles, but I figure its 8 years old, and I do alot of short drives and floor it. It's suppose to be changed every 6 years soo im already 2 years overdue. Even thought the car doesnt have "90k" miles, the car is always idling or sitting in traffic.

OMFG!! did he at least use vasilene?
the timing belt is only costing him about $40-$50 and the tensioner does not usaully need to be changed. that's whatHONDA told me
water pump= double what he's paying
gasket= $10!!!!

etc etc.....pleas go somewhere else. I would hate to see you get fucked like that.

What wouldn't a thiefing mechanic recommend?
They will pile up the things you need to "change" and hit you with a HUGE bill.
:shakehead
Go to the same mechanic and tell him that you got a better deal elsewhere.
See what he tells you.
The labor he's charging you is almost half of the total.

Go elsewhere.

Ok....my bro's mechanic (he owns a limo service, so he has his own mechanic) did this to my car:

Timing Belt as well as some other belts
Water Pump
4 New Tires
New Radiator
Oil Change

with all the parts, it cost me $750. He charged $350 I think for labor.

You got raped.

It's weird though this place never ripped me off before, they always hook me up with oil changes and tranny drail and fill. One time they fixed my window motor for 80.00 with labor.

Maybe there getting back at me all the times they hooked me up?! I don't see why the guy would rape me though, he's not like that. He knows my moms b/f pretty well. I even told him I was sending my friend there with an Eclipse for a timing belt and he said he'd take care of me. I think they actually pay that much for the parts, and the labor seems to be in range they charge 75.00/hr.

The funny thing is I wasn't going to agree to it, and then I just decided to do it cause I don't really trust any other place. This place has been there for 50 years and they've always treated me good. Even fixed my tranny under warranty when it was voided.

I guess. As long as you're satisfied with the job they did .

That's nice of them to fix your tranny when your warranty was voided.
