well, saturday im going to get my car tinted. Is there anything that i should watch out for before i go? I am taking my door panels off for them and removing the 3rd brake light.

Looks like im going to get 15% with a vinyal strip acorss the matrix because the local tint shop (Lightning Mikes, incase all you Charlotte, NC people were wondering) no longer carries 20%, and 35% is too lite for my taste.

My car is Inza red so i think it will look really good, the only thing that has me worried is inspection.......the legal limit here in North Carolina is 35%


SOOO post pics, advice, things i should look out for, and anything i should prepare for, or anything that could possibly go wrong!!!

my car is my baby, and its killing me to accually let someone else work on her, ive always installed eveything on my own and serviced her myself.

prepare to not roll your window down for 3 days.only thing that can really go wrong is peeling/bubbles and most places give you a guarentee for that.also don't get cheap paper cuz after a while it turns purpley.other than that . btw i got 5% and love it,if your gonna be illegal do it to the max...i always get pulled over though so i'm going all out and tinting my winshield 20%

 

im with subbuzz, if your gonna be illegal might as well make it worth your while. ive got an inza red with 5% all the way around. here in cali anything is illegal on the front side windows. ive also thought about tinting my windshield but its an 800 dollar ticket first time around.

but im most worried about annual inspection. Cause if you got darker than 35% they wont pass you, and if you are 4 months over due its a 500 dollar fine.

 

yo, remember that our windows are slightly smoked, so even when u get 35% itll be too dark, my boy already gettin tickets, he takin em off

5% ain't that bad seeing out,it takes time to get used to but unless its pitch black i see fine.....the winshield i wanna do 20% which is not bad at all.isn't the tinted strip on the top of the front winshield 20%?

 

i have 15% all around and 30% on the front windshield i love it.. GA has a tint law at 35% but since i go to school in Alabama (no tint laws) i have no problems

 

Cali has no yearly inspection just dickhead motorbike cops who actually take the time to pull your ass over to give a "fix-it" ticket

 

hey, i used to work at a tint shop...for our first gen cl, there is no need for door panels to be removed..i think you're getting jipped.

 

No need to take the door panels off, just make sure to take the 3rd brake light off. I had all my friends takin theirs out in the parking lot when we did our group rate, cuz I had taken mine out the night b4.

Good idea with the vinyl strip though, I have 35% and the honeycombs are the only place that my tint looks bad

 

On a related note, does anyone know how to take tint off? I and found the garbage bag method and the steamer method. Has anyone tried either way, or know of a better way?
Im not concerned about the side windows, just the back. The sides I can do with a razor blade.

whats the average life of a tint job?? they come with a liftime warrantty, but i dont wanna b messing with getting it replaced every 3 years

 

Depends on the type of tint film they use, and the amount of time the car spends in the sun. If you have a lifetime warranty, you'll be fine.

Anyone know a place in MD that will not care too much about tint?
My sides are all 35% but my back is 20%.


I don't know if I could do this, but there are some areas on teh defroster lines where it didnt adhere completely, so i have a few of these thin lines that arent tinted. I'm thinking maybe I could have the tint shop take it off one day because I guess that should be covered under the warranty (?), say I have to go to work and can't wait around for them to retint it, and leave. Then I'd go get inspected and come back the next day and have them put it back on?

Fuuuuuck these tint laws.
I would rather just go someplace where they will overlook the tint.

I have 5% (illegal in WA), and I've never been pulled over. I think I paid like $180 or so.

 

being pulled over doesnt concern me at all..........cops here in charlotte dont care about tint.

sorry for double posting.. i hate doing that... but i payed $110 with a life time warranty for all the windows with 6% tint except for the windshield

 

just what it sounds like. We have to take our cars in once a year for a saftey and emmissions inspection. They meter the windows during this, if they are below 35% you dont pass. If you are more than 4 months over due, its 400 dollar fine.

Well we have about 2.5-3 months where it is at least 110. So not long.
Your right, I do have a lifetime warranty, but I really dont want to take it back there. The glare strip is purple, the back window is purple and the passenger side window has some hard film on it that wont come off.....

I check at one place and they said they would strip it and redo for like 230 or something. But I am pretty confident that I can do it myself and save the extra 120 bucks they charge to take it off. I can put that extra money into tinting the windsheild.
