Equalization and Amplification

I'm in the city and kind of want to maintain a stealth system but the stock head just doesn't have the equalization or power that i want. Would anyone recommend a seperate amp and an equalizer or just get a D-MASK head (or similar)? Also for a sub, i don't want anything that's gonna win an SPL comp, i just need something that adds the fundamental and is tight so will an 8 in a sealed box accomplish that? MODERATOR if you want to move this to A/V that's cool but I know more people in here and a lot of you know what you're doin for the 1st gen. Danke schön.

I see you like alpine... get an alpine 5 chanel amp and add an 8" alpine type s sub in a sealed box. Thats gonna let your mids and highs play louder and cleaner, and at the same time add some very good low end. Equalizers tend to put a lot of noise in the system if they are not properly tuned, which is more difficult than you think. Just add an amp, sub too if you want... and it will keep a stealth look... the stock deck sounds good, but like you said, it needs a kick in the power department.

I agree, if you're going to keep the stock HU, get an amp to power your front components and rears, and then get a separate sub. If you like your music rounded out, with some nice hitting bass, but not some DJ Magic Mike 'make the car go boom' type of stuff, then I'd probably recommend a 10". Either a ported of a sealed box, or even get a tube (i.e. bazooka). I have a 5 channel Alpine Amp, I have to say I'm pretty pleased with its power and clean sound. Its definitely in the "not winning SPL sound-offs but still nice" category

If your going to go with just a single 10" sub you should get a competition. A normal 10 wont put out that much bass. If you dont want to pay that much for a competition then just move up to a decent 12" and you should be satisfied. Good luck

there is no need for 12" if your lookin for stealth... get a good 10 and but good wattage to it ... eclpise alluminum .. boston accoustic... 2 i would highly recomend.. to keep the stock player just use 2 amps... one for highs one for lows.. easy as that..

A 10: JL Audio sub will put out more than you think properly amplified in a well sealed box. It will not take a ton of power to sound good either. If you are not looking to get real serious, just something that sounds good, the stocck HU is not a bad way to go, especially if you have external amps, the stock power output is a mute point. Get a amp with high level inputs so you can wire the signal right from the rear speakers, or get a RCA converter. Very simple and easy.

I don't know what is "normal", but I have an old school 10" Orion XTR 800 that was and still is the best sounding sub I have ever heard. 10's sound much tighter and cleaner than 12's and don't take nearly as much power to drive. The Alpine 5 channel mentioned above would be a perfect fit for a decent 10". Hell, you could even go to your local Wiz and pick up a non-powered Bazooka with the Alpine and it would sound decent. He already said he's not looking for an SPL championship.

thanks for the posts, keep em comin. I've seen a few different alpine 5-channels (i think there's three) and the 1000 dollar one i'm not considering unless i get a reeeeealy good price on it. I've heard bazooka tubes are shit so i'm lookin into the Alpine Type-S 10" sub in a sealed box. All Alpine all around

buy an xtant x604!! it is a 5 channel amp and will power your whole system.i have one that controls my components, rears and two 12's and it sounds unreal.i have people all the time asking what i have and when i tell them they get this unrealistic look on their face.the amp is $1,000 but well worth it.i had to buy an xtant x1001 for my two 10"jl w7's though.good luck!!!--onedayzpay
