engine/tranny swap?

Anybody ever tried putting a 3.2 Type S motor/6 spd trans in a 3.0? I have seen alot of other swaps but I was thiking about this the other day. I know it's a bigger engine but the setup is pretty much the same. And there is a bit of wiggle room in our engine bay to play with. Just wondering. An NSX motor would be better... but then, why not just get an NSX.

not true, no one has ever done it, but I know if I was to, it wouldn't cost no 10G's!

IT all really depends on who is doing the work and how bad they are trying to rip you off

dude, it has to be around 10 grand! The motor itself is around $5000. Plus the whole engine bay probably have to be cut up. If you did it yourself it would be less, but I guarantee no shop would touch it for less than 4000, unless you got hookups.

if you buy a new motor! Who ever buys a new motor for a swap? There isn't much cutting to the bay it's a j series block that is the same size as the one in it already. The only cutting I can see is to the slot where the tranny is going to slip in, but even then it's not likely, since manual tranny's usually aren't as beefy as auto's. Custom linkages will have to be made though most likely.

Dude, youre nuts if you think that would cost 10g's, guarenteed it could be done for half that. Why would installation be no less than $4000? Thats alot of hours of work.

i've heard that someone has put a Type-S into a first gen, and from what i've "heard" that the swap was around 10g's. i dont know if this is true or not, but this topic came up a while back, i think thats mad money too, but i would think it sounds about right

CLpower-of course you could do it for less than that if you did most of the work yourself. I'm just saying that the average import shop would most likely try to charge you around 10 grand.

I checked on a few websites, and s2000 motors were going for around 4000 USED. So I guarantee that the CL-S motor won't be much cheaper if at all. I couldn't find a site that sells CL-S motors, so they must be sorta tough to find.

I've had shops quote me anywhere from 2500-4500 for the complete H22 swap, and it is a direct fit. For the CL-S swap you would need everything + axels, motor mounts (custom) and i'm not sure about the ecu conversion, but it's probably tough.

I think it would be pretty cool to do tho if someone had alot of miles, but was in love with their 1st gen. Someone actually go get a manual tranny in their 3.0, then talk about motor swaps.

Has anyone ever even swaped out a j30 from an av6 and dropped a different motor in?? I'm sure this will happen before the CL, because there is so many more of them. If this hasn't been done yet, then it probably never will happen.

The JDM H22's are supposed to have around 35K on them and usually go for 1800-2500 depending on the year and if it has lsd and the overall condition. Most shops charge around $700 for our particular swap since it's fairly simple, but some shops charge more and some less. I've been quoted up to 4,400 from a shop in SD called Hook Ups. Doesn't sound like much of a hook up tho huh. I've also been quoted 2,500 from Prospeed in anehiem. If the 3.2 S motor could be done for $5000 installed, i'm sure someone would have it done by now.

if i were going to spend over 5 g's i would just go ahead and trade the 1st gen in for a type-s for this main reason ifu put the motor in with no kind of warranty(i know if u can get warranties through certain people) and it breaks u are SHIT OUT OF LUCK

it would be cool but VERY COSTLY it would take someone WHO WOULD GIVE THEIR THIRD LEG FOR A 1ST GEN i just dont see anything practical about that

holy shit! I stand corrected. A CL-S motor for almost the same price as a fucking H22. Someone go do the swap. CLpower was right! It can be done fr around $5000. Maybe more, but even less if you do the work yourself. That would be the pimpest first gen for sure!

pretty good. . . $3500-$7000 for the full swap (because i called some of them and some of the engines don't come with the tranny or ecu. plus to get the six speed, you have to get the 2003. or is it 2002. . . some thing like that.), plus may-be custom engine mounts ($400-1000), plus labor. . . . ($ 700-?). still is an expensive project.

plus another thing you have to worry about is how many shop really know how to do this swap? if your down to spend around $7000-$10000 on the swap, be my guest. but, if that was me, i'd sell the cl for about 8000-10000, take the money i would have spent on the swap, and buy a cl-s. its too much money and there are just two many risk.

the motor won't need mounts is what i'm saying, it's a direct fit like the h22. The blocks are identical. the only thing you may need to do is cut at the firewall and their may be some hood clearence. If you are gonna pay 4500$ for a h22a swap it better be a brand spankin new motor. I know people that do the actual swapping for aroun 500-800$

i've already see them laying around a few motor shops. And it wouldn't be a problem at all to find one at a junk yard. It's not like the CL-S is different then any other car.

about 1/4 of the price if you do it yourself cause it's just installation, and I don't see much fabricating needed, but there may be a little.

it also depends on location. Out here in so cal it's very cheap because there is 2-3 shops in every city.

seriously considering

Alright, think of all of the mods you can put on your 3.0, and then think about how many miles you have on it already(I have 122k), and how hard you plan on driving with your new mods. My point would be that if you can come up with an CL-S engine/tranny combo and get it installed for roughly 4500-5000, it would definitely be worth it. Plus the satisfaction of knowing you did something completely original. Also, isn't there more aftermarket shit for the 3.2 anyway?
