engine longevity

Quick question. Who has the most miles on their original '97 3.0 engine? I am approacing 110k and I am starting to get a little bit of noise, barely noticible but I just got this car and plan to have it for a good while. A friend said the noise I was hearing could be a lifter, before I start putting on performance upgrades which are going to give me more power, I want to make sure the innards are good to go. Has anybody done a good 100k mile tune-up or overhaul/rebuild. If so, did you use a kit, where can I get? Any help is appreciated.

I've got 94K and based on the manuel it says to change the timing belt and water pump at 105K which I will do when i get there. Should I change before then?

First off... In my experience, all honda motors have a certain "tap" to them... Maybe you do have a problem but maybe you don't... I pushed mine til 130 before doing the belts... I'm at 140.

Ive got a 109,000 on mine and I put 700 an additional 700 every week because I commute to work.

Mine had a little bit of a knock to it and then I changed the vacuum hoses with a blue hose kit(<$20) and at every oil change I drop in a can of this stuff called restore from Autozone or any auto store and it runs like it was new again. Restore is only like 3 or 4 bucks and they come in different size cans for different engines. Its really good stuff.

IMO I'd get the timing belt changed it can break and slap things around. Fortunately you drive a SOHC and it uses a belt which is pretty cheap to replace . IF you had a DOHC youd have a chain and it would cost an arm and a leg to replace and if you didnt and the chain broke youd have a nice heavy paperweight that looked like an enigne

You may be referring to 1StGenCL. If so, he has a 2.2 with over 200,000!

Thats why I bought an Acura. Plus our cls look so good that when they are still runing ten years from now people will still think that they are brand new.

I had a 90 accord with 265,000 miles on it when I sold it to my friend... it now has 285,000 and it runs beautiful.

My fathers friend has a 87 accord hatchback with like 460,000 miles (yes, thats typed right) on it last I knew... with the original motor in it... hes on his 5th timing belt... still runs perfect and dosent leak/burn any oil.

All Honda engines use timing belts... even DOHC engines... they never used a chain. Nissan engines tend to use timing chains, these never have to be replaced... making their engines extremely reliable.

If you dont change the timing belt and it breaks, you're in for a ton of problems... like possible bent valves...

The "clicking" type of noise comming from the motor is just the valves and lifters working... if its loud and pretty noticable its probably time for an adjustment.

I have 38,000 on my 1998 but i live on a island so there's really no where to commute. 38,000 is considered high miles over here too.
