I have a 97 3.0 and my engine light just came on the other day...the car seems to be running great though. Any ideas on what may be causing this? Im taking it to the dealership next week.

 

I had that same problem....I think the cause is you ECU valve or something like that ......I'm sure the dealer will fix it for free under the emmissions warrenty. Do a search on this topic to find out more info

 

Could be the secondary O2 sensor going bad. It only monitors the function of the catalytic converter not the fuel control like the primary. Therefore showing a light but not effect performance.

I'm sure there's many other things it could be but this is the one I've dealt with recently.

 

It might be the EGR and PCV valve being clogged. It happened to my car last month and is really easy and quick to fix. Nothing to worry about.

 

Thanks for the info guys. I just took it to the dealer yesterday and it was the 02 sensor..and was fixed under warranty!!

 

Did they say how they diagnosed it? I'm assuming the used their magic ecu interface.

Anyone know what one of these little black boxes cost. Would love to know what it sees and doesnt tell.
