It sounds like the ECU you have is a p28, is that what it says on the side of it?
If it is, you can run it but you'll need a OBD2 to OBD1 conversion harness for it to work. Then, it won't have the proper map for your car so you'll need to get it chipped so it's programable. Once that's done you can either run a basemap that someone else has already created or you can get one tuned specifically for your car using a wideband oxygen sensor and program like crome, neptune, or uberdata. All of this wouldn't be worth it on a stock motor, but if you have plans for forced induction or other serious engine mods then this is definately something you should look into.

What year and model of CL do you have and is it manual or automatic?
If you get the wiring done correctly and get the ecu chipped then the only problems you might have (depending on what year and model CL you have) are finding a stock map and burning that map to the eeprom.
That being said, if you don't plan on using this chipped ECU for tuning your modified engine this whole process is probably a waste of time and money. If you're just trying to get the car back on the road then you should sell the P28 and look for a stock ECU from a junkyard or something.

sorry to hear about your car man. the civic ecu isnt compatible considering its OBDI and your cl is OBDII. The pinouts are diff. Also the CL harness is slightly different.
what year is your cl?
auto or manual?
i might have one for you.

What do you mean by the CL harness being slightly different? Wouldn't the OBD2a to OBD1 conversion harness work for a 97 2.2CL exactly the same as it would for a 97 2.2 accord?

thx for the inpit everyone, but from reading all the replies, im gonna connect the civic harness and run the p28. just to let everyone know, im lucky that, thats all they took and besides my sound sysytem. i say im lucky, because, im running a h23 vtec turbo setup and they didnt even touch that, so now since i got the car back i pulled the motor for cleaning.
ps: it wasnt a stock ecu it was a Accel DFI system thats why they chopped that shit up

H23 turbo in a first gen CL? That sounds like some pimp shit, you gotta give us some pics and some more details. The chipped P28 will work perfect for your set-up with some big injectors and a good tune.

Yes it would but what assures you that the pinouts are the same for two diff cars. Many pins are the same but there are still differences.

damn, sorry havent updated inawhile. been real busy. just got the motor back in about a month ago, and then started to tackle the wiring. i started to wire up the p28 ecu harness but luckily i found my old ecu clips so basically i got that in. now i ran into something else, my old ecu setup was Accel EMS and running an MSD 6A box and external coil setup. the msd box was hooked up directly to the EMS, could anyone show me where i should hook up the box now? my car is cranking but dont want to start i know i have no sparks. well any info or any guide would help and i'll try to get picks up, gotta find my camera
TIA
