dropping gears.

I was wondering is it is safe while racing on my 2.2 auto starting from a red light then when turn green at 2nd gear slowly press the pedel then drop to 1st and stomp on the gas then just go up from there. I notice it picks up quicker while doing it. I don't recommend doing it alot but while racing I think it works. What do ya think about that? I notice starting at d3 or at 1 is slow off the line. Thanks.

I hope you aren't racing on the street. And if you are, be careful. Street racing is stupid and dangerous, keep it on the tracks.

or you could just stomp the gas in D, and it would be the same as starting in first instead of having to wait for it to down shift. You may feel that it is faster that way but that is only because of the power surger of it shifting to 1st at 10mph instead of starting in first.

Yo, just "powerbrake". You keep the left foot firm on brake and hold the RPM's up to like 2K with right foot on gas and when it's green, you floor the gas and lift off the brake.
Don't do it a lot and don't doo it for longer than a few seconds. Basically do it during the last second before the light turns green. It's hard on the tranny if you do it all the time. The fluids really heat up.
You'll get a better launch that way. You can keep it in D3 because in the 1/4 you'll never get out of 3rd anyway.

Peace!

I tried it in d3 but he pulled on me. But when I shifted from 1,2,d3,d4 I got 5 to 10 car lengths in front of him when lucky. Sometimes 1 or 2 car lengths. When I got it in d3 I got him off the line then he caught up. But when I shift my self it was a easy kill at the end, in the beginning we were neck to neck. Once in d3 I pull hard on him.

I have a 2.2 auto and i found out that it pulls harder at a roll when you start in d3 and right before it shifts to 2nd you let off the gas put it in d4 (must do it fast) It is hard to get it right but when you do you can really feel it take off. It seems to trip gears and make the VTEC kick in faster. Takes some practice. Not sure if it does harm to tranny?
