Does size of exhaust tips effect sound?
Does size of exhaust tips effect sound?
i got a tenzo muffler, and it sounds real nice, it's low and loud (but not annoying loud), and i have a single tip (one of those ricey ones that are really big). i'm in the process of "de-riceying" my car, so i'm prolly gonna get a dual tip, a little bigger than stock. only thing is, i don't wanna lose any of the sound. will a dual tip instead of a large single tip take away from some of the loudness and deepness of the exhuast, or does it not matter?
I don't think that the actual size of the tip matters. What does matter is what's inside the can. I don't know the specifics, but different configurations in there would result in different sounds. Hopefully one of the other knowledgable people will chime in here!!
Both matter...what's inside and the size of the tip. I think even if you use the same muffler that you have now for dual the sound will be smoother and not as loud as now.

Exaclty. And no the size of the tip does not make a difference.
All these cars with huge exhausts just sound like leaf-blowers to me. And since they are generally on crappy, low-performance cars I think they get about as much performance boost as if they added a leaf-blower motor to their engine...

I read (I believe it was superstreet) about 6 months ago that the size of the pipe doesnt matter, its all about whats in it. It was an article about building your own custom exhaust.

I meant the tip, not the size. Its whats in the pipe ( or lack of) that makes it loud, not the tip.
