distributor removal
distributor removal
has anyone on here removed there own distributor before? anything i should look for. my o'ring went bad so i'm going to go ahead and replace it as well as the valve cover gasket. is it possible to remove the distributor myself? thanks.
A potential problem that vexed me while working on my old Accord EX is the distributor drive key that engages the camshaft slot. The key appears symmetrical at a glance but is slighltly wider on one side. It will only go in one way. Don't try to force it in the wrong way and damage the distributor.
Looking at the drive key slot in the camshaft it is hard to determine which is the wider end. If you mark the position of the distributor rotor relative to the distributor cover when you remove it will simplify installation.
Replace the distibutor Oring w/ a new ring from Honda. They get old and brittle, causing an annoying oil leak from the distributor.
good luck
