Difficulty of replacing timing belt?

My CL has 120,000 miles on it now and I think its time to replace the timing belt again. I'm pretty sure dealers charge an arm and a leg for this so I'm hoping with the service manual I'd be able to do this myself.

How hard is it? Could I do it with fairly little auto experience (I've replaced starters and small things like that)? How important is it to replace it right now?

thanks

It "can" be done if you arent experienced, but you would need to be patient making shure not to mess up the timing, or the ballencing.. Basically you are taking all the accesories off the one side of the engine, The engine will need to be supported by somthing sturdy. And it requires a improvised or otherise bought tool to hold the flywheel. Atleas on the 2.2 I know nothing of the 3. You can figure in a couple days of work too.

I consider myself fairly mechanically adept, I ignored the advice of of having a trusted mechanic do it for what seemed to be exorbetand price of 530 bucks to prove that I could. I did, it works great, but after all the work 530 bucks sounds like a steal

Most people here seem to be doing them around 90 - 110 k.

If your asking the question, how hard is it to replace the timing belt for someone with little auto experience the answer is its very hard to do.

But you don't need to take it to the dealer to get it done. Any good mechanic can do the job. I'd say a good price is anywhere between $350-450, depending if you have a 4-banger or 3.0. I'm assuming you have a 4-banger if you had it down already at 60K, so if you find someone that will do it for $350, take it.
