Dash lights dim on and off

Has anyone had a problem with their dash lights dimming, then returning to normal brightness, then dimming again, back to normal, etc.. while the car is idle?? I dont have this problem when driving, but it usually happens when i am standing at a traffic light. I took it in to the dealer and they said to turn up my dimmer switch. I did, but it still keeps doing this. They say my charging system is fine. Little quirks like this is what really annoys me about Acuras. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Yes, I have had that happen. Usually when I have the radio blasted and the AC on, not to mention the radar and the cell phone plugged in. I also had to have the Alternator replaced because it went bad, luckily it was under warranty....

Ok dig this, I think that all the alternators for 97-99 CL's are bad. they all go bad if you plug in one thing to the cigarette adaptor and have the AC on. the fact is we need to get acura to replace them with a bigger one or one that will perform better. I should be the first since i have a sub, cellphone and a radar detector going all at the same time. i hope it goes soon kuz my waranty is up this october! i'm on a mission to find a better alternator for my car. let me know if you have any info.

They dim in 1 second intervals... it's really really annoying. You guys are probably right. I think it might be the alternator cause I have a radar plugged in as well as the AC running. I'll unplug it tonight and see what happens.

this is ridiculous. I didnt pay for an Acura to have this kinda stuff happen. guess the fact that i have a sub doesnt help my situation either.

Mine has done the same thing since it was new. As soon as the fan turns on the car vibrates a bit and the dash and headlights dim for a second. I'm not sure if all the alternators are bad because i have always had a radar detector and cell phone pluged in until reasantly when i hard wired the radar and got the nokia hands free kit that is also hard wired. I have 167,000 miles on the car so if it the alternator was going to go bad i think it would have by now.

No more scratches thanks to the dumbass who walked on my car and had to pay to have it repainted.

My 98 did that when I first bought it. The headlights and dashlights would both dim at idle especially when a turn signal was on. The dealership said ther was a service bulletin out tha said to switch some wires on the harness, Sorry but I dont have specifics. Please excuse me, I'm a newbie(read as a Acura virgin).

My service order says "called tech line, removed #2 pine whitegreen wire from connector c131, fixed problem."By the way They also replaced my alternator because THEY said it was too noisy. They said the two were unrelated.

I had to replace my alternator last summer but since then its been perfect and its a factory Acura one too. I've got radar, stereo, DVD, lights, headlights, and an amp all goin at the same timr and no problems at all.

Hopefully your alternator wasn't a crappy Delphi a subsidy of GM. My oem battery was a Delco.

i have never had this issue-- i have 103,000 miles on my '97 2.2, and there is something constantly plugged into my lighter and i always have the a/c running to clear out humidity ...

'97 2.2CL -- essentially unmodded, but would love to start someday with some help-- i do have an aftermarket Sony head unit and Infinity's, and a Autodash wood dash kit though.. *lol*

Mine does the same dim on and off bullshit. Its an undersized alternator problem. I am not going to have it fixed. Its just embarassing for other people to see your lights dimming.

I was planning on taking it to get it fixed again, but then the lights stopped dimming. Then I drove to my friends house, and it started doing it again. Damn, my car is playing tricks on me!
