Cold Air Intake Problems

hey everyone,

i am new to the board and have a Green 97 3.0

Im just now starting to actually mod it up a bit now that i have some cash but i ran into some problems today installing my intake

I bought this intake off of ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT

I know its not a great intake but i cant really afford anything else right now so i decided to just get a cheap one on for now untill i can get another

I had a bunch of my buddies over to help me install it and they all know what they are doing and have done it many times before. Anyways it doesnt seem to fit at all. I mean the support arms are in the wrong places, couplings are too big, and the
pipes are the wrong size.

The box the intake came in was acutally labeled to be for a 2001-2002 3.2 TL/CL and i emailed the seller asking him about that and if he sent me the wrong one and he said that their labels are wrong and they only carry 2 types on intakes: one for a CL-S and then one for a non-S. The auction clearly states that this will fit on my car, but it doesnt work at all

Has anybody had any experience with one of these aspec intakes or can anybody help me out here?

I appreciate it

well..for the type-s and non-s...the mounts are diffrent..and also..we use and accord intake..so the mounts wont match up perfectly from what ive seen or heard....but ebay is also full of scammers..could be made for a newer model and he doesnt want to admit it..

yea man thanks for your quick reply. i love your avatar, rollin on those hundreds

but yea dude I had my buddy over who just put a nismo CAI on his Spec-V and the installation was very similar how mine is supposed to be so he came over to help and he and I both clearly noticed that the mounts are in the wrong place and the pipe is the wrong size, its clearly not for a 97, but the seller is 100% sure he is right and he wants me to take pics with my digital camera to see how it doesnt fit. Im really familiar with ebay and i know all about like scammers and crap but this guys feedback was like 99 percent positive so i thought it would be okay....but if you look at some of his negatives you see comments like this:

" I did receive the intake system for my RSX, but it was not an exact fit. "

so i may have gotten scammed but if anyone out there can help me out i would greatly appreciate it because intakes really shouldnt be that hard to put in

thanks in advance

well the box is actually labeled with a little sticker that says CL/TL 3.2 2001-2002

I asked him about that and he said that their labeling system is messed up and they only have 2 types on intakes for Acuras:

For type S
and non type S

He seems to be really professional and wants to help me out figuring this out and then helping me to install but im going to take some pictures this afternoon of where it doesnt fit well at.

I will post them on here also

thanks guys

ur not using the two tubes backwards are u. the one with the macaroni elbow bend is the one that goes to the t/b (bend towards the front, and away from the t/b) then the one with the slight bend goes from the macaroni end to the hole (make sure u removed the resonator box) with the slight bend going into the hole.

For 1st gen. there is no type S or non type S. the only diffelnce is 3.0 or 2.2 and 2.3.

i think the guy that you bought your intake from think that you have 2nd gen. not 1st gen CL

98-02 Accord V6
97-99 CL 3.0
01-03 CL/TL 3.2 Non Type S (CL-P/TL-P)

you bought the wrong intake dude... the mounts are different on the 2nd gen CL non type S. even though the intake fits down into the wheel well the same way... the mounts do not match up... fab something up or send it back to the dude and claim false advertisement since it doesn't fit.

that CAI looks just like the generic 2pc that dustbuster4 had on his '97 3.0 before he replaced it with an AEM

also, the AEM part # is the same for all vehicles I listed above- 21-416

I tried to find pics of Ricks old CAI, but he must have deleted them

ok here are my pics of how it dosent fit...

you can obviously tell that this intake does not fit my car. The cupplings are too big for the throttle body and do not tighten down enough, even if it did fit. The mounting holes do not match up.

The seller still insists that the product fits my car, but i beg to differ

what do yall think? Is there anything that im not seeing or im doing something wrong possibly? Let me know, thanks

i think the problem is that he sent u two tube joint couplings. instead of the reduced one that goes from the tb to the intake.

heres a pic of the one that came with mine it has a reducer on it (goes from big to little) and i think if u had that as the right one it would line up correctly. cause it is bout 3" long.

http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/wil...&.dnm=46cb.jpg

sorry but thats the only pic i could find.

umm your intake tubing should fit right against the throttle body. the coupling should just hold the 2 together not act as tubing...

the 3.2 engine in the 2nd gen models is larger than the 3.0 accounting for the extra 3 inches. for all fitment purposes... tell him u'll send it back and he should send you the 98-02 honda accord v6 intake.

u should of save up and get brand name intake. some no name intake decreases your performance and juss gives the sounds that you want. next time, u should save ur money and get atleast decent parts for our CLs!. sometimes there are deals like, 80$ for used AEM cold air intake in this forum. but i would of recommand u to save more money and get ur self AEM V2.

after about a month of paypal disputes, im getting my full refund including shipping. All i had to do was ship intake back to seller in CA and provide paypal with the tracking number and once paypal confirms the delivery via tracking number, they issue my refund.

thanks for everyones help on this!!

Points for everyone!!
