I traded in a MR2 5SP with 143000 on it and the original clutch. It was a hydrolic clutch and at around 120000, I had to refill the reservoir every 3000 miles or so. I hope to get that many out of this clutch!!

Becareful when you do this!!!! It may sound stupid but make sure you do this in an empty parking lot with nothing in front of you. The car will jump forward!!!

Put the car in second, rev up (3,000-4,000) pop the clutch. If your car stalls and dies right away, your clutch still good. If it revs up and down (strugles and then dies), you need a new clutch.

No, shouldn't. That's the way mechanics check the clutch. Thats assuming that your CL is in good shape. However, I wouldn't do it everyday. You may want to ask your personal mechanic before you try it.
