Clutch DIY

How hard is it to do a clutch DIY? Is it sworth doing it yourself, or taking to someone? There are clutch places around townt that will do it for like 300. But that is a stock clutch.

Most places will charge you $300-$400 to do it, I got mine done for $200 because I know the guy but it aint easy if you are not mechanically inclined. I was watching him do it and it was a pain in the ass.

its probably a pain in the ass to do if you dont have access to a lift....I guess i might as well just pay the 300 and get a stock clutch, anything is better than the jello clutch i got now.

Why not get an aftermarket clutch? My Centerforce cost me $250 but I didnt change the flywheel, I'm gonna upgrade soon to an ACT clutch and flywheel.

BUT will you be able to take that to a shop. Most places wont put in a supplied clutch. I tried that with brake pads before i just started doing them myself.

How are the centerforce clutches? Are they really jerky when you shift?

ive never heard of a shop not putting in a clutch because they didnt sell it to you, they have a much larger margin on labor so it would be stupid of them to refuse you service, unless they were uncertain about their ability to do the work.

that being said, i brought a clutch/flywheel combo to a speed shop and they put it in for 300

I know. I read that post of yours and was glad that my wife was not the only one like that.

I think im gonna take the approach you mentioned....The only problem is is that her grandfather used to own a vdub shop and she will just ask him if that is true....Ill just tell her its not a vdub and

That usually works..lol

Most any shop will put in a supplied part, as long as you're paying labor. I got my xdrilled/slotted rotors and pads installed by a shop as part of my state inspection

I think the best reason that i can come up with for them not putting it in is because they did not sell it to me so they willnot warranty it??? I dunno. Ill make a couple calls and see what i can find out.

I know this one shop by my job that specializes in Honda/Acura that will not install any aftermarket parts , the guy refuses. It's dumb but I guess some places don't want the responsibility if the part is faulty and they have to keep trying to fix an aftermarket part.
