CL becoming a headache

i have had a p302 code in my car for about 4 months now and i switched it back to an obd1 accord ecu and it took care of the noise so i thought it was the ecu. yesterday i was driving it and it started to miss fire and putter really really bad and then it just died...wouldnt start for nothing. My friend and i finally pushed it to his house about 4 blocks away and started searching.. found out the that miss fire cause my cap to go out, my rotor button, and it ate the crap out of my plug wires, and of course it burnt out the plugs too. so i relplaced all of them and i was hoping that it would take care of the problem but no it didnt. any body have any idea what this might be? do you think that the timing belt might have stretched? please please help....

and to let you all know my CL is forsale and i really dont want to part it out. i will take almost any thing for it (with in reason) so hit me up with offers.

I am not sure but I had missfiring too in cylinder 2. I got EGR port clean last friday (other 3 ports are got dirt and closed, so egr only return to cylinder 2 and cause missfiring) and car runs like baby now. Before I changed all the part you can think of but they did not help to solve the problem. You have to clean the inside not only the EGR valve...

Yes, why did you swap the ecu? That probably started a tragic series of unfortunate events for you engine. Poor little 2.2 CL, you may have to replace the engine... And man, if the timing belt stretched or slipped, your valves are likely to be wrecked real good. Sorry to hear about that... Those mods sound wicked, except for the ecu swap.

peace, and all that...

at first i thought i fried my ecu because my friend used my car to jump his car off and all i saw were sparks. he had the cables backwards. so i had access to a 95 honda accord vtec ecu for free so i got the harness and it ran great for a bout 6 months. well i hope i dont have to swap motors unless i can find one for dirt cheap that does not need to be rebuilt.

I just answered one of your questions a few minutes ago, before this. Now i know the background on your other problem. Ok to rule out the first couple things- timing belt was not a problem, if it stretched or broke your pistons would slam into your valvetrain causing a very unhappy engine, but it would definately not sputter, misfire.. it would just die. It was by no means a simple misfire that messed up your engine, sounds like you really detontated or had a very bad electrical problem. First im going to blame it on your OBD1 ecu. On this topic, how were you able to run this ecu on the OBD2 system? You had to have a jumper harness or something, cause they will not plug right in. What Ecu were you running? Since you said it was from an accord, im going to assume the fuel/air maps are similar, but there are severla other problems with that. Odb2 system have many additional sensors that are meant to decrease pollution- these are incorporated into the exhaust, intake, DISTRIBUTOR, and several other components. Without these senors hooked up, the ecu will not be able to monitor and control them, causing problems.
If you are seriously looking for a way to fix this i would do this:
1. Switch ecus
2. Take off all your plug wires, plugs, cap, rotor, and that stuff... look into the contion of the actual distributor, and mainly the ignition module inside it.
3. If everything looks ok, put it all back together, like i said in the other reply, make sur you have the firing order right.
4. Still not working? You might not want to, but i would say take off the head, cause if id be willing to be youve got a nice problem. If you don't want to take off the head, at least tke off the valve cover and inspect your valvetrain. Look for bent valves or other signs of trouble.
5. Pray.
Thats all i have for now, hope it helps.

Yeah your vtec would probably suffer too, because there should be a camshaft angle sensor in the distributor which will also help to regulate vtec activation points. To my knowlede these sensors are not on the OBD1 system. So you vtec would probably activate eventually, but would not be a reliable as it should.
