check engine light

ok i my light came on cuz i had my venom parshly hooked and some moved my car while i was out. i tried resettign the ecu. i pulled the fuse and let it sit for 3 hrs and still nothing. i heard that after a certain amount of times of turning the igntion key and the ecu doesnt see the error code anymore it will go off. i thin kim just gonna discconect my battery and leave my car sittign overnight for like 12 hrs. i hope by then the memory is cleared. i m very embarresed to have my engine light on. its so bright u can see it through my tints!!!!!

I think if you take your key and push in the black tab between your gauges, that will reset I believe.

i had my engine light came on 3 months ago and took it to my dealer, my car is not under extended warranty, and they fixed it for free. they told me that it was an electrical problem, and acura is willing to fix it under their car warranty (>75000 miles). my engine light came on after i drove really fast and downshift it to third coming to a turn.

You know, thats pretty cool that this post just came up. While I was driving to the beach this weekend, my light came up. I think it was cause i floored it at one point on the highway. I've driven 200 miles after that and the light is still on. I'm going to reset the ECU and if that doesnt work, I have an appointment at the dealership tomorrow morning. I'll let you all know the results.

If your engine light has come on, even if you do mangage to reset it the computer will be all fuxored up. Our cars are OBD-II and rely totally on the computer and shit for emmisions and bullshit. You can reset the computer but it'll just get rid of the light, your car will still be confused on what's going on. To tell you the truth though I had the same thing happen, I just on-hooked the battery for like 5 mintues and it went away. I'm still gonna get it hooked up to a comptuer, I got a friend that'll do it for $20.

You should leave the light on and hook it up to a computer, that way atleast you can get a code, which will atleast tell you what the problem was/is.

revolver- you definitly have a good point. since this car is still under warranty, i should probably just let the dealer look at it. (i hope he doesnt tell me that i broke the car by driving it to fast )

VXCL's engine light came on when a part wasn't on right when he move the car.....it's not really a big problem. I had my light come on 3 month ago and it was because of the EGR valve....some emmisions BS but the did fix it for free.....but recently it came on again while installing my intake....I just for got to plug in the air sensor.... So i unhooked the battery and it's fine now......But if the light did come on from just driving I'd get it checked out....sorry if this doent make sense i'm in a hurry.Peace!

well i know what cause the prob. my venom is hooked to my tps and map senors and i had the ground disconnected on my venom cuz i was taking otu of my car to be reprogramed at python injection. so my car was in the way of my parents. my dad moved it and now the light is on. i reset the ecu. pulled the fuse and let it sit for 3 hrs, but that dint work. aslo i heard that even if the error code is gone the light will not go off until a while to make sure it isnt still ahppening. i remeber somewhere that it takes a certain # of times of turning the key in the ignition. well im leavin my battery disconnected for overnight and ill see what happens. otherwise im going to acura. hiding the fact that i have a venom and they will have to fix it cuz im so damn embarresed to have that damn light on.

Sometimes the ECU stores the CEL codes in memory even if it decides to shut the light off. It could take many resets to clear it from memory. Find someone with an OBD2 scantool that can read and erase. Dealers sometimes charge as much as $60 to do this, or you can buy your own that'll interface with a laptop or Palm for around $100.

yep- I went in there this morning and told them "I had no idea what would cause such a thing" They said they'd take care of it.

I think the MIL can be triggered by anything that doesnt look right at the time. It will stay on even if the problem goes away. Its just a precaution so that you will have the car looked at in case it is a potential problem. Therefore, they should be able to reset it for w/o giving you any shit for it.

Got my car back from the dealer today. They said the EGR and PCV valve were clogged. Cleaned it out and turned off the MIL.

I have had light come up several times. My dealer said its mostly emmisions censor. The problem was an egr valve. everytime. it controls your fuel pressure. you will notice the might be lagging and the fuel economy gets worse. The first time the dealer just reset to kill the light because they had to order the part. but the car doesnt reset. just the light goes off.i'd go to the dealer its covered under warranty
