catalytic converter replacement

i'm looking to replace my entire exhaust system soon, and was wondering if getting a new catalytic converter (not high flow, just replacement) would help or hurt performance. as they get used, do they result in more or less restriction on the exhaust system? they also aren't cheap, so even if a new one would help a little, i probably wont get it. thanks in advance.

I would not mess with it unless it was messed up. It does restrict flow but you must have one in most cases. As far as it being more or less resrictive with use I am not sure my guess would be less restrictive but who knows.
