I am worried if I gut out the cat that I will throw a code, I know someone has done this on the forum, can you tell if it does?
and if I throw a code, will if fuck up my fuel and vtec, or will it just be a eye sore on my dash
appreciate it

the only way you'll have a problem is if you mess the o2 sensor up. the dealer told me they are just there to moniter how well the cat is working. so both the o2 before and in the cat will be getting the same readings. this would mean your cat is failed, but i dont think it will throw a code.

Dont gut it out. Recently i purcheased a straight pipe on ebay for $65with the o2 sensor thread. Its a perfect fit. They have more for sale. But then again it depends on where you live if they check fo cats or not.

When you put in that straight pipe, did your check engine light come on at all, and could you tell a difference in performance? I was going to make my own pipe, but wasn't sure if it would throw a code or not. I've also heard that if you just hang the O2 sensor outside of the exhaust, it will be ok, because it's reading clean air there, so it will think the cat is working.

It will definitly throw a code if you gut the cat.
67 - Catalyst System Efficiency System below threshold, defective catalytic converter
Trust me, been there done that.
Just buy a high flow cat. Just as good as a straight pipe.

I see on Magnaflow's site that they have ODB-II compliant high flow cat converters. I wonder if these would work with our cars and not throw a code. You can get them with the O2 sensor boss built in.
