your thermostat is not opening up. Change your thermostat.

It could also be your waterpump.

I was having the same problems. First I noticed that my radiator had a small crack in it. So got a new one. But yet I was still heating up. Besides getting a new gasket on the thermostat, I took it to my electric mechanic I know and found out the motor was burned out, and that's why I was overheating. Got a Honda fan motor instead of Acura because Acura wants $350 just for a fan motor. But yeah fixed it and everything is better.

The only reason i was thinking it was the waterpump is beacuse if it is shot, then it would nt pump the coolent through the engine..

I would check the fans first. Turn your car on with the hood open and see if the fans come on or not. If not, its the fan.

Change the thermostat.

If that does not fix it, have the water pump looked at.

oh one more thing. Is the thermostat housing connected to the upper or lower radiator hose in a 3.0 CL?

You have to drain the fluid first.

If im looking at the motor from the front i see the upper radiator hose goping to the engine but there are no bolts where it connects to the engine just a hose clamp. however there is another hose connected to the bottom of the radiator that goes to the engine which would it be?

Yes, its connected to that hose. You will see the hose clamp on the engine side. the engine clamp is connecting the hose to the housing that you want to remove.
