Car acting sluggish

Hello, I am a newb here and have been a proud owner of a 3.0 Acura CL for a year. I have never had a problem with her ever since I bought it. My car has roughly 101k miles on it.

So yesterday i went to the store real quick to buy something. When I put my car in park i heard a clunking under the hood, it seemed very suspicious to me but I paid no mind to it. When I left, which was 5 minutes later... the car starts to drive very differently. I have to push the pedal harder than normally to get it up to speed, it has a hard time rising in rpm no matter how much gas i put.

No, I do not beat it around and floor it. I drive like a normal person. It's hard to believe, I know with me being 18.

I have searched for threads about this problem but I am sorry I cannot pin point the problem. I am hoping it is not my transmission. Maybe it could be my ECU as I have read in other threads?

The car haven't had its timing belt and water pump done yet. I was hoping to wait until 105k to do that. Do you think that it could be that?

Please share your wise wisdom with me.

Thank you very much.

There is no check engine light on, only the "maintainance required" being red which I know is just a reminder. I forgot to mention that it is 1998 and is bone stock.

well the thing that i would start with is to start the car, open up the hood, and see if you can pin point where the sound is coming from.

if you already suspect the timing belt then get that, the water pump, and the thermo changed ASAP as you dont want to wait till those go out. those can cost you a pretty penny if they blow. along with the other stuff. waiting till 105 could be pushing it.

you should probably get your tranny checked. our cars (from what ive read here) have crappy transmissions. or is it only the 3.0s? correct me if im wrong guys. well in any case, having it checked will definitely save you some headaches.

I will probably get my timing belt and stuff done this weekend. Hopefully the problem will go away .

My older brother drove it as well and he said it was driving weird so at least I know that it's not me going crazy.

well to me it sounds like an exhaust clog/leak.

Thank you for your replies. I will definitely look into it starting with the catalytic converter. I'll keep you guys updated.

if it was the catalytic converter you'd probably be able to tell because it will be loud as hell and you probably wont be able to get it past 4k without your eardrums bleeding.

i think maybe the safest thing to do is just taking your car to a good shop. one that wont tell you all this crap just so you can spend your money (chances of finding that are slim haha)...then atleast your not taking gambles
