To buy or not

Alright, I need to ask everyone's opinion about this one. I'm ready to sell my 97 3.0, and I found a great deal on a 2001 CL Type S, with 16000 miles on it. I was gonna choose between this and a 99' or 00' TL. But, of course i'm worried about the infamous transmission issue on the Type S. I know they extended the warranty to 100,000 mile 7 years. But, i'm still worried. What would you guys do?

it should be a no brainer. Type S hands down. If you have tranny problems it'll get fixed w/ no questions asked.

Here's my problem though. I'm 19. Going to sell my CL for probably around 16 g's and save another grand. That makes for a $19,000 down payment. Hope I quality for the loan and if not I'll ask my momma. I only make about 580 mo. cuz I'm in the military.

Crometalon: Sorry to highjack your post.

Actually, its kinda strange the whole deal with this car. This car is being sold at a Chevy dealership. They got it in as a trade in, and asking price is 21995. I told the guy i'm not paying more than 5000 down and 250 a month on the car. Now, he said he could do this. I just have to go back and put a down payment. So, i'm hoping it'll go through, we'll see what happens though.

Dennis i wish i was as lucky as you. Im 19 too, but for now im happy driving my cl and not having to make any payments (I bought the car cash) i would definetly get a g35 if i was done with college btw. i dont think they will have any problems financing you if you show up with 19k down. with that money you could take the car in a four year loan and only pay 250 a month if you get a pretty good interest rate. if not, have your mom co-sign and get a good apr.

i know that it's an 01, so the factory warranty is still in place...but wouldnt you have to buy it from an acura dealership to get the extended 7 year 100,000 warranty...i know that when i got my CL, that was the dealio...i could have bought one at another dealership but they werent offering an extended warranty...something about it has to be checked out by certified technicians and i wouldnt think that chevy technicians would be "certified" in acura's. I dont know, maybe i'm wrong, but if you're worried about being covered for tranny problems, you might wanna double check it

Not beyond the orignal Factory Warranty (4 years or 50K miles from date of ORIGINAL owner's purchase).

you will be VERY VERY lucky to get 16g's for your car. Mines a 3.0 and a 99 w/ about 50K and i'd be lucky to get 14K

I'm going to sell it with all the aftermarket parts I put on. And my car only has 42,000 miles on it. I think I'll be alright. We'll see.

250 a month???? Perhaps if you are financing $12000. Are you going to talk him down $4000 on the asking price? I guarantee you that your payments will not be 250 a month. The car dealers always tell you that just so they can sit you down, bullshit you, and entrap you into a higher monthly cost. Look to be paying more like in the 320's.

Sure we can do $250 a month said the dealer. The salesman just forgot to mention for how long
