Brake Question

this morning driving to school my brakes wouldnt work and the car was sliding and making a grinding sound...anyone know what that might be..?
it was snowing but not much snow was on the ground...maybe an inch but it was like ice and snow on top...
if anyone know...help..

If there's ice and snow on the ground, I think you are sliding on the ice.

yeah sounds logical but was there a grinding noise coming from the brakes?

No, the tires sliding makes a grinding sort of noise. I've driven in snow before.
