Bottoming out
Quick question here....
With my springs (1.75f/1.5r) the front gets bouncy on roads with large rolling bumps (eg. intersection hump). In some instances, where I am going at a decent speed, coming back down leaves me rubbing the fender well. All in all, I have a lot of suspension travel at higher speeds. Obviously it is expected with sport springs. I think the reason for this exsessive travel of the front suspension is the fact I am using the factory struts still. The "looseness" of the front suspension gets worse after driving for a little while (struts getting warmed up?). I believe the factory springs on the CL is designed to take the majority of the ride, and are stiffer. Now with progressive springs, the shocks can't handle it.
My question is, will repalcing these struts with something liek the KYB AGX's, control my suspension travel in the front so that I don't have this problem (or at least drasticly reduced)? Right now I get paradoid driving anywhere over 45 mph because I don't want the front suspension to extend like that when I go over a little hill in the road. I am figuring by putting the AGX's in there, it will at a minimum be better designed for a lowered suspension, and I can adjust it to the firmness I need to get even less travel. My understanding is that the springs define the idle height, and generall suspension, however the shocks/struts keep the suspension travel "under control".
Oh, and I have 18x7.5 (45mm offset) wheels on 225/40's. I have no rubbing in turns or general driving at all, just going at a decent speed and get the suspension travel.
Or is this just the way it is? I expected a rougher ride (smaller tires, bigger wheels, reduced ride height), but I think it's just out of control right now.
Thanks a lot guys!

Did any of you have spring with the factory shocks prior to getting the KYB's? Or did you do it all at once (the obvious smarter route). I just want to make sure that the KYB AGX's will significantly improve the ride. If not, I can just wear out the factory ones and then replace them (if there really isn't much ride improvement) or I am putting the factory springs back in (cause the bounce ain't cutting it at 75mph on the way to the airport )

Sounds like the stock shocks are shot now. I'm on stock shocks on my '01 S, when new ones are due they will be adjustable. But my car is only at 11k. Whatever you do, do it before something unfortunate happens.

When I put mine in, I did it all at once. So I dont know what it is like to have the springs without the KYB's. If I were you I would change your shocks asap. It sounds like they are no longer working properly. How long have you had them like that? Why didnt you just get some shocks when you put in the springs? Now it's gonna cost you more because your gonna have to pay for installation, unless you know how to do it yourself like me!

I know how to do it myself (shit it's just a few bolts). But my tools were stolen. So even if I rented a spring compressor (or borrowed), I still don't have decent sockets or ratches (let alone my damn impact wrench!!!)
So yeah, prolly have to pay again.
They have been doing this since day one. About 2.5 weeks ago.
