Best Tools for Oil Changes?

I'm planning to start changing the oil myself on my CL. What tools do I need and what would you recommend? Thanks!

Tip: on the 3.0s removing the front passenger wheel makes the plug and filter extremely easy to access, maybe the 4 cyls are similar.

WHAT!??! Thats toooooooooo much work....you totaly dont need to take off the wheel. I just changed my 3.0's oil 4 days ago...all you gotta do is go buy theose like $30 ramps and drive your front wheels up onto them...then you got tons of clearence to work.

*****MAKE SURE YOUR USING A METRIC WRENCH!!! I think the 3.0s use either a 16 or 17 mm wrench.

(look in your manual and it tells what to do) (i think its pg like 116 or somethin like that.

Oh! it says the 3.0's only take 4.6 quarts or oil...i just put 5 im mine...i think its fine.

Exactly!!!

I wish everyone here was as smart as Smitty! :P

So, can someone tell me what size tools and if I need a specific oil filter wrench to do an oil change on a 2.3? Thanks!

Thanks, niedejb! Now all I need to work on is a "stout grasp".

They make universal filter wrenches. They look like a corkscrew and slivde over the filter. As you go to lossen the filter, the corkscrew grasps the filter, and it grabs it.

You should never use a filter wrench to put on the filter. THis is why the filter wrench only goes in the off direction Just tighted it as hard as you can by hand.

Oh, and get a decent sized drip pan. The inital oil drippage pours like a house, then it ends up dribbling. If your up on ramps, it can piss about 4' out

Dont forget to take off the oil cap (where you put in the oil) when your draining out the old...this helps it drain better...oh, and if you get on ramps like i do, make sure your back the car off the ramps and start it up - then let it sit a sec and THEN check the dipstick, if you dont do it in that order, you'll get a false reading

Also, use a towel/rag around the oil cap area. This will keep you from accidently spilling oil on the engine and getting it dirty/oil/etc. I just take a wrag and wrap it around the spout. The oil quarts like to play games comming out, and can surprise you with a dribble on a hard to clean area.
