hey guys whats up...

sorry havent posted in a few weeks but I had to spend some nights in the hospital. I feel good enough to type now so...

I was kida hoping to tell my story to vent a little and maybe get a little advice.



I was out on thursday night 11/04 at the bar about 1/2 mile down the street from my apt. i decide to leave about 12:30 A.M. so i can get some sleep and go to school in the morning. I decide to walk home since it was so short and i didn't feel like risking getting a D.U.I.

About halfway home I'm walking in the grass away from the curb and road since there is no sidewalk. I see some headlights approaching so I back off a little more. The person flies around the curve and runs over the curb into the grass and as I am jumping out of the way he clips my right side.

I kinda went flying a little but never lost consciousness, thank god, I remember laying in the grass and hearing -what i believe is a pickup truck- stop, wait a second, then take off(definately was a V6 by the sound). I was too worried about how I felt to get up and see who/what it was. Luckily my cell phone, which was in my right pants pocket, still worked after the impact and I was able to call my friends at the bar. I didn't bother with 911 since I live near the county line and EMS services take forever to begin with here in Charlotte.

I thank my friends for helping me out so much and staying up until 5 A.M. to stay a little with me.

3 days later and $18,000 poorer (no insurance), I ended up leaving the hospital on the 7th, (which happened to be my 25th birthday) fortunately walking under my own power. I had lacerations on my liver, kidney and spleen. My right lung shut down for about 2 days, stitches on my left hand, lacerations on my right hip, bicep, elbow, and forearm. right wrist was fractured and I get a -oh-so-pretty-cast. moderate right knee and ankle sprains.

The hospital people were all wonderful, even knowing I had no insurance, but whoever wrote my medication prescription dicked me with a 7 day supply of weak vicodin with no refill, so i have a walmart bag full of Motrin IB


O.K.--so for the legal side....The cop reporting sucked,she didn't even go to the scene of the crime, of which my friends did and found my shoe and the passenger side mirror of the truck/SUV that hit me. as she was asking my friends for contact info and details, there was ANOTHER hit and run right in front of the hospital!!

the cop is oblivious to the accident, so my friends point out the guy getting out and running away from the accident. The cop turns and asks if the dude running needed any help!! after my friends go ballistic, she DROPS the mirror, and runs after the guy, cuffs him, comes back and says "whew, I got him!", as if my friends were supposed to applause.

2 weeks later and no word from the police I'm wondering what's going on. I know a county commisioner very well, but no police. I don't know where to start to begin finding out what nfo has been colected or what can be done do find this guy. I'm assuming since the mirror belongs only to a certain few years of a certain vehicle and the mirror is painted and the paint can be identified, there can't be too many vehicles in a 3-4 county area. cross reference that with any insurance claims and/or body shop repairs involving passenger mirror replacements, should that generate any leads?

any idea what else I can do? I don't feel comfortable calling a personal injury lawyer right away before I can get any info, since they are expensive and greedy.

That sucks man. Glad your alright tho. yeah keep harassing the police. something needs to be done. they should be able to lift prints, color match and all that.
keep pressuring them. when they find him take his money and his freedom. can't understand how you could hit someone and keep going.....fuckin low lifes

 

IM NOT A LAWYER...but the best thing to do would be to find out what kind of truck/suv it came off of and do exactly what you said as far as major repair, but also speak to a lawyer to see what kind of limitations you are dealing with in your area because here you can do that but where you live you may be breaking the law(messed up privacy laws but still...)

 

Well I would take it to a lawyer and If they think they have a case they will do the investigation for you and take the fees out of any settlement you might receive. Probably better than counting on the police. I would bother the police as much as I could until they did something also. This will probably take alot of effort on your part but I would proceed with it.
