axel nutz

i was looking at the diy for the clutch install and there is mention of a 36mm socket which i ass-u-me would be for the axel nut, but after speaking with the parts guy at acura he stated that it was a 24mm.....?

which is correct?

and r these of the crush nut types that need to be replaced each time?

thanks

Yes they're the crush type. And it's 36mm socket you'll be needing.

I don't recall having rings behind the axle nut. I changed my clutch a good 6-8 months ago, and my memory isn't all that great. But if I had them, I reused them as well.

So you can get the nuts at the dealership for $2.70 each?

the set ring i believe is on the inner spline on the axel that goes into the transmission, used to keep the axel from coming out

correct acura of warwick, ri $2.77 + tax

i am having problems finding the set rings on the axels though

he did say that he could get them in a day but i am doing this in tomorrow morning and the garage i will be using is a little distance from the dealer and my buddy probably wont want to leave and lose about an hour just to get the set rings..

so that being said i guess i will reuse those also

i get on one knee and pray to the god murphy not to bite me in the arse....

Sits at the very end of the spline right? Reused that as well.

that is correct

i also have a lincoln mark 8 and i did a big brake conversion last year, they use the crush nuts also but everyone was adamant about not re-using them so i will get those and pray for the best on the set ring...

i think the set ring issue is not really a big thig as long as i keep all 4 wheels on the ground (no plans to go airborne in the near future)

and it does not break and get in the tranny

again thanks for the help

keep looking for the up coming post on the work tomorrow i hope my issue with the clutch will be resolved and i can start to enjoy my new whip....

sucks worring about the clutch slipping (i think it can, i think it can)

Yea, I ended up with a new axle shortly afterwards, so reusing the parts weren't that big of an issue for me, as it was only for a month. I could see why you want to get a new nut every time you take those axles off. I was skeptical about reusing it, but I thought I didn't have a choice. I was use to taking axles off that use the pin with their axle nuts.

Good luck with everything.

one more question can u use dot 4 synthetic in the master/slave or just stay with dot 3?

so far i got $400 into this clutch job just in parts new clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, slave, master cyl, fluid and now crush nuts....... plus shipping o that hurt..... i know i am missing something

cost a lot for 2 day shipping from california

more than half in savings on job quoted by local service garage they wanted 1 grand...

haha to funny

i was laughing at the guy on the phone and they were not even going to put a new flywheel where going to resurface..... and he was like bring it it tomorrow

easy $$$$$ for them 4 hrs on lift 15 hr for mechanic thats $60 +$200-$300 in parts if the really replaced everything thats a nice little profit for the garage

I thought on the back of the bottle, it would tell you if it's compatible with DOT 3 systems and what not.

What I found --> DOT 3 and DOT 4 are polyglycol-based fluids and can be mixed with each other.
