its faster and more fun.

 

less of a loss in teh transfer of power to the wheels. plus you have much more control over the car, and if you do it right you can not only get better gas mileage, but also increase teh life of your car.

What you should have ask is what is the difference between SMG and a stick.

 

how does manual make car faster? i mean, as far as proficiency goes, i always thought auto was better because it doesn't allow room for mistake (ie shifting incorrectly).

 

manual = direct
auto = foot to gas - gas to cpu - cpu to wheels - 25 seconds later - 20mph WOOHOOOO!!!!!!

 

 

this is why all pro drag racing cars are autos....

manual you can shift it past redline... less loss of crank horse power through transmission to wheels.

 

also with a manual you know what is coming ahead and can choose the gears accordingly... auto can't do this obviously.

for example if you are coming towards a turn at high rpm in 3rd gear you would want to stay in 3rd through the turn...and auto might drop you to 4th before the turn.

 

transmission breaking/downshifting... will tear up the auto.

Yeah a stick is a lot better for many reasons that you have all named, one very important reason in racing you left out - uhh powershifting But, with a shift kit and some upgrades for an auto it can be pretty damn good as well. Granted our stock tranny kinda sucks ass but that can be changed. While we're on the topic, anyone have a shift kit? and how much did it run you?

 

are there any available tranny mod's to beef up our current tranny's other then buying a Dr Evil?

dr evil is a tranny rebuilding company. they make ur tranny bullet proof. they put lots of expensive guts in ur tranny. i think they give u a high stall torque converter also. which would make ur auto just as responsive as a stick. costs like 4g's but its guaranteed never to go out again. and can hold like 500hp.
