Auto transmission preventative maintenance.
Auto transmission preventative maintenance.
I just picked up a '99 3.0 CL with about 140k miles despite hearing about the faulty transmissions that they came with. I bought this car for my 20 mile per day, all highway drive to and from work.
I'm wanting to see if there is a good list of things I can do to help prolong the life of my transmission. I do not know if it has ever been replaced or rebuilt, but at the moment it shifts fine.
Thank you in advance!

Driving easy is the best thing you can do for your trans. The preventative steps I recommend are add a Hayden Transmission Oil Cooler, and change out the transmission fluid. When draining and filling your trans fluid you can inspect the fluid and look for metal flakes, that is the best way to tell if there is any breakdown starting.
That won't be a problem. I'm well known for my "grandpa" driving. I read some posts talking about pressure switches and 3x3 or 1x2. What is this about? Should the switches be changed out once in a while before they fail?
