Exclamation Auto to Manual HELP!

I am looking to take my '97 auto 3.0 CL and make it a manual. If anyone has done this before, or has some knowledge on how I can go about this, any parts I would need or anything else, please post on the thread or email me directly. I would prefer not to do a full engine swap, and if this is the only feasible way to do it, I probably won't bother.

HELP!

you dont have enough posts to send a PM.

i actually saw that car on H-S the other day. fuckin sick.

im pretty sure the only way you can do a manual swap is if . you get an 03-07 AV6 6MT complete swap, CLS 6mt swap, or the outrageous swap Coca did.

dont worry he'll eventually chime in.

so do you know anything about how much it would cost to have a good shop do it, or just if i did all the work myself? i dont mind doing the work, especially if its really expensive to have it all done.

should i just get a new engine too? a used engine? how many miles would i be looking for? i have no idea... id hate to do that cuz my engine now is really reliable.

ur most likely gonna have to swap the CLS6 motor and tranny, even though your current engine is reliable. I believe cocoa has spent a good 5+ thousand already, but he's going all out. itll probably cost somewhere around 3-4 for the motor, tranny, and wiring and whatnot that you need. Once you get your posts up, you can PM Cocoa or he'll put his vast knowledge down on this thread

Those are C series engines. Their tranny won't bolt up to the J series.

To make my life easier, this is pretty much the same concept as to what you need.

One thing off the top of my head, you'll need a custom tranny mount made. You'll have clearance issues with the firewall, so you'll need to reposition the engine, or cut into the firewall. And you'll still need to buy the CLS 6 speed ECU. I'm going to be honest with you, I'm really tired of helping members that dont do the swap. It's really time consuming for me to sit here and rethink every aspect of the swap. Your best bet, is to have a shop do it for you that knows what they're doing.

can i do most of the prep work to cut down on costs or just hand it over right away?

I would say around $6,000 would be a fair price. Really, it all depends on how much you get the parts for. And whether your tranny comes with all the sensors or not. Some of the sensors run for $500-$700 alone. So you have to make sure they come with the tranny in one piece. You have to make sure you get the CLS 6 ECU with it as well, which will be hard to convince the seller to sell you that and not with the engine.

Where do you live? If you're in SoCal or close to it, I can recommend a shop to do it for you. As far as prepping it for the shop, most shops will take the time to over-look the work to see what has been done which in the end would amount to the same price in labor, or they won't accept the car half worked on already. That's something you'll have to negotiate with the owner/manager of the shop.

The hardest thing about making this happen will be finding the parts at a good price.

6,000 is more than my car is worth! I live in Cleveland, OH so no help with shops. Thanks anyways. Thanks for all your help, I am probably going to have to give it up and agree with everyone this swap isnt cost effective for me since I can't do the work myself.
