Arm Rest too high.

This is a bit of a dumb topic and I thought about starting it in Ramblings but I'll be asking about modifications so I guess this might be the right place. I have a 5 speed and the arm rest of my first gen is a bit too high, I find that it's a much quicker and easier shift if I lift the console door. Do you guys think I'd be able to take the leather off, and remove the inch of padding? Has anyone done it... better yet, do any other clutch drivers share my complaint? Later Guys (and girls).

I agree that it's a little too high. I haven't done it yet, but my approach is to shorten the shifter by cutting a segment out of the middle and re-welding it back together. I need to install my short shift adapter first...when I get the console pulled apart I'm going to scope out how to cut it down. I need to find someplace in Sacramento to do the cutting & welding.

mine seems just fine. I can shift while keeping my arm in the arm rest. Up shifts are fine, but I agree with you on the downshifts.

You could try sitting on a phone book....sorry.

Have you moved the seat up and down to alleviate the height problem?

maybe you're just too short. :P

seriously tho. i keep my arm on it all the time, and it seldom seems to bother.

if you want to do what you said, lose all the padding and get it re-wrapped.

HAHA I'm exactly six feet tall. The actual problem is that while holding the shifter, my lower arm is resting on the console and shifting fast is a problem... whatever.... it's not a problem, I'm not out there racing anyway.

when i go to the track, i slide the leather boot all the way to the bottom and shift from the bottom of the shifter.

I love the position it is in. I couldn't ask for a more comfortable spot.

Everyone is different though and if it bothers you that much then i am sure you can modify it.

No padding

I double checked mine today and realized that my console does not have any pading, just one layer of leather on top of the lid. I think the previous owner might have removed it?
