Apexi VAFC controller for $50!!!
Apexi VAFC controller for $50!!!
So my friend used to work at a tuner shop and used to have a WRX STi running 20PSi, etc, etc, blah blah blah!! Anyways I was at his house watching the OSU vs UF beatdown -on his 110 inch 3-chip DLP HD screen, with surround sound, all you can eat hooters wings and an open bar!!!- on monday and he tells me he has what IIRC is an Apexi VAFC controller justing sitting it his garage with no home. He says he'd give it to me just that I give him a little something since it costs $300, so I figured if I did I'd give him $50!! Do you think with my mods i/h/e/p on a 3.0 that it'd be worth the $50 for it? I'm still looking forward to the custom cams for the J30 and potentially down the road doing a full J32a2 with 6spd swap! I don't know if it's the VAFC I or II, I prolly wouldn't buy until the super bowl cause you know I'm gonna be back to watch the game on that screen, God Damn that was AWESOME!!
Well IDK now since CleanCL was gonna be getting them made which was supposed be happening now I think. He was also gonna be the first to install them and then dyno them before Excelerate would start selling them so they could show some results even though it'd be on his beast of an engine. But now that his Dr. Evil tranny has failed and he's dealing with that IDK now what the status is right now. I don't really want to be annoying and ask him right now until at least his tranny is working again.

Well look at ghostmaster he was at like 192whp+ with these mods after tune but he does have alittle bit more he also has spacers, ignition and cams and 99CL claims he got 206whp with the same mods as ghostmaster. So I'd guestimate I'm in about the 170whp region with my mods before tune, I know that's not very accurate but whatever it makes me happy.

Back when 99CL was putting down 206whp and I was putting down 175whp, I beat him by almost 3 cars. The dyno given really depends on what dyno you're using. Some give higher numbers, the mustang dyno gives lwoer numbers. It really all comes down to the tuning.
Anyways, you should only expect roughly 15whp with all bolt ons without tuning. Dont bother listening to advertisements. I explain how they misinform you in one of my old school threads. With cams, and tuning a respectable figure would be roughly 190whp. Be sure you take it to a reputiable shop, otherwise they can make the figures look higher than they actually are. I took mine to Rage Motorsports. They are known to build some crazy ass drag cars for Hondas. You'll find them in magazine almost every other month. For you h22 CL's....they were the ones that built a 740whp H22 in an eg.

Oh yeah it's a projector!! Lucky for him his dad works at installing pro-audio stuff and he got the projector which is a Mitsubishi and he said was the top of the line model which retailed for $5000, he got it at wholesale for $2000!!
Ok so I picked up the VAFC last weekend for $100. It's the VAFC I not the II but it's still good. OK so I think I could install this myself. I'm good with electronics, I've made ethernet cables, speaker cables, F-pin cables, and installed a phone line before so I think I've got enough experience to do this. I just need to know where the ecu is and does anyone have a diagram for our car (3.0)? Is it by the glovebox?
I DL'ed the PDF instruction and read them and found the right diagram for the J30A1. Now it doesn't mention a VTM signal for my car? What is the VTM signal? Does anyone else have a V-TaCK controller installed in their car whether it's a 2.x 3.0 or 3.2 that can provide any installation tips?
