anyone take their AC belt off to free up HP?
My A/C has a refrigerant leak that I can't find, but I'll worry about it once the weather gets hot again which wont be for another 7 months.
So for this cold season I was wondering if any of you have taken the belt off to free up power, I know I'd need a different belt because that belt also turns the alternator. How can I figure out what size belt i'd need for crank pulley to alternator only? Just take measuring tape and measure it?
Would I see any problems? I know people take off their power steering belt w/o problems, but I'm not into a forearm workout everytime I park so that's staying in, but the A/C has no function for me right now.
Thanks!

if u dont have the AC on i dont see how much more power you are going to get without the belt, but im not really familiar with the belt system. AC helps with defogging in cold weather tho.

it'd be a waste of time, the only thing that is turning when the ac is off is the pulley itself... there is a clutch in the pulley that engages the compressor, when the ac is off, the clutch is not engaged.

I see, so when the A/C is off and clutch not engaged, then the compressor turning is not really providing resistance to the belt drive system? Wouldn't it still reduce from the rotational mass being turned by the pulley?
thanks!
thanks!

its a waste of time. if you want easy horse power just slap a couple of DOHC VTEC and TYPE R stickers and youll have 120hps to the wheels.

It could also be detrmental to your AC system. You should on occasion run your AC in the winter. There is a lubrcant in the system that keeps your compresser from freezing up.
