Anyone flush their coolant system? Any tips?

I'll be doing this this weekend. I neglected to do it since I've had the car. I've had no problems with the cooling system but want to do the old "winterizing" and preventative maintenence.

Should I drain the antifreeze and then stick a hose in the top and let it run and flush for a bit?

Other tips?

You only have to let it run until the water draining is clear. I think I've also heard that warm water is good to use, but I'm not 100% on that.

Also, make sure that the drain pan is large enough. You'll probably have to empty it out a few times while flushing.

Use a jack to raise the front tow hook slightly.

You can then slide a nice sized bucket under the drain cock.

Thanks,
Got about a 5 gal plastic pan that i use for oil changes. I think I can clean that up some and use it.
I read on the antifreeze bottle that you just have to dispose of it into the toilet. Not into the drain sewer but a sanitary sewer.
I think I'm going to get that Prestone flush that I saw. I think you fill it up and put that flush stuff in, then run the car for a bit and then drain it all and finally fill it for good.

You could wreck your front end, get a new radiator, and let the shop do it for you (I did)! :P

Just make sure you don't leave an abundance of water in the radiator/block.

Good luck!

I think I'll pass on the wreckage!

A coworker ran head on into a wall in a parking lot, totalled his car, got an insurance check that was enough to cover his remaining payments AND give him a downpayment on a new car! I'd consider THAT if I knew it was a sure thing!

I think I'll just flush the radiator for now though... thanks!

Is there a drain bolt for the block to drain all the coolant from the engine?

No, there is a drain plug on the bottom center area of the radiator, you just pop that, and all the coolant in the engine will drain out of the hoses and into the rad. Just replaced my whole rad system and hoses last month Drain at the bottom fill at the top, just like EVERY other thing on our acks,. that's honda for ya
