Anybody else despise our console?
Anybody else despise our console?
I may sound a little picky, but it seems like our console is made out of really cheap plastic. Apparently the previous owner of my car scratched the shit out of the armrest plastic and it will cost 80 dollars just for that and probably another 80 for the console around the stereo.
Does anybody have any ideas about fixing the console up? Maybe fiberglass? What I was thinking about doing is having a body shop sand, prime, and paint the console the same dark grey color as the rest of the interior, except it would be super smooth and glossy like a regular car paint job.

I work directly under the used car manager at a local dodge lot. There is a lot of interior solutions that I’ve never thought were possible. I recently asked a guy that does interior touch up (from the colorglo company) what he could do for the scratches on my console. He told me that on the rough textured plastic that you can normally heat it up and it will smooth the edges around the scratches and in a worst case scenario he would have to use a template for the pattern and melt it back into the plastic. If it gets discolored from the heat he would paint it with interior paint which isn’t glossy at all, in fact I bet you couldn’t even tell that it has been painted. I've seen him do amazing things to the used cars on our lot. He normally charges about $80s for the whole interior including all the leather refinishing, re-dyeing the carpets, plastic touch-up, steering wheel painting (if leather wrapped), and deodorizing (if necessary). If you want new then buy new, but this is definitely a great solution that has wonderful results. I recently had my steering wheel repainted because it was starting to look worn up at the top (where I rest my hands most of the time), and it came out looking like it was brand new. I just thought that I’d clue you in on other options, and I’m sure that there is someone from the colorglo franchise around your area if not another interior touchup outfit.
I tried finding one of those color glo areas in town, but with no luck. I may either try to find a place like that myself, or I may have carbon creations do something for me. I've heard that they do both complete molds and cosmetic wraps all in real carbon fiber. I may have the whole armrest, console, and woodtrim wrapped in carbon fiber.
