Alternator that is 160 AMPS-Good enough?
I was thinking about purchasing a 160 AMP alternator. I have even seen one for 190 amps. The only major thing sucking power is my sound system:Alpine recv.,SUb-woofer, amplifier and 4 speakers. Total about 1,500 watts.
Any suggestions? What do some of u guys have?

you can get one for the CL off eBay from a guy in texas, its 180 amps
that should be plenty for a stereo, if your worried about power for your system and your amps, get a cap or 2, i would recommend 2 if your running 2 amps, 1 if your running 1, and a 1 farad for each is plenty and you wont notice anything dimming at all

agree with 97Acura3.0CL
1 farad is for 1000W. Use it only on your Subwoofer because it should only make out the loudest bass so I don't see the reason the have a farad to the speaker's amplifier.
BTW, I have near 800W for my audio system and my light didn't dim @ all
We don't civic with low power alternator

upgrading the laternator also helps when you get aftermarket pulleys as well to keep up with the power and the system at the same time
also look into a newer battery like optima yellow top

Before upgrading your alternator, tt's best to install the audio equipment and see if some symptoms appair (like diming).
"The most common symptom in need of added capacitance is headlight dimming (and sometimes dimming of the interior/dash lights). It's caused by a drop in system voltage associated with excessive current draw. "

check out this web site. Have tons of info.
Hope it help
