Air Filter housing

Hey guys im a long time lurker - first time poster... I finally had a question i need some help with. I recently bought a 99 2.3 (manual) and I went to put a K&N air filter in it. Naturally a couple of the screws holding down the air filter housing were rusted real bad... well after beating on them for a bit two came loose and two broke off... so now my housing isnt super tight and i have two broken bolts holding it down. What would be the easiest way to remedy this? Should i just drill out the broken ones and rig some new bolts or would it be better to find a new bottom half of the filter housing from a junk yard? Thanks for your help - you guys know too much about cars....

I dont know how easy it will be to find a CL in a junk yard. I have tried around here in VA and havnt been too successful. I think your idea of drilling new ones would work. Or you could always get an after market intake and get a few more hp and MPG!

Im all about boosting HP but I didnt think you could also boost MPG with that... what kind of an intake would be good for both of those? Im a newb with this kind of stuff so be very clear, kind of like when you talk to a 5yr old....

by the way... i have an extra K&N filter new in the box for the 99 2.3 if anyone is interested... i order two by accident (long story)...

It would improve the MPG only if you don't keep going to WOT. It seems a lot of people that have an intake goes to WOT a lot!! I heard a couple and I don't blame them. I have a K&N filter also and I know the rust you are talking about. I would say just put in new screws if you can. People say it is not a crazy difference between couple of HP from the K&N filter and a intake. How it sounds is basically the difference.

I have the AEM CAI polished blue for sale... I broke the filter so you would have to go get a K&N filter for this one... $88 shipped... K&N cost you what $35 on ebay? I think it is at least $18 for shipping.

check the my homepage for pics of the CAI when it was installed.
