advanceing timing
advanceing timing
Hi everyone, I have heard of people advancing their timing. What is this? And can it be done on the 97 2.2cl, is it bad for the car, and is it worth it? Thanks in advance for all the help Oh yeah, and how much $$$
you can advance your timing by loosening the three screws that hold your distributor cap in. once you do that, you want to turn your distributor cap forward (i think it's forward for advancing and backwards for retarding the timing but not sure). you don't want to do it too much cuz you can blow your motor. but if you do it right, you will feel a difference. i know friends that have adjusted the timing on their cars to where they can spit fire out the exhaust. if i were you, i'd have a proffesional do it for you if your not very mechanically inclined. good luck

pwrdbyacura.. your gunna blow your shit up.. don't touch it.. bring it to someone that knows what a distributer does and how to adjust it.. cuz if you want to aimlessly fuck something up. i'd say get a vafc.. least you can screw shit up more easily
You should buy an adjustable cam gear, Venom, AEM, Neuspeed, ect. Take it to someone who work on imports and have them adjust the timing on the car through the distributer and gear. By adjusting you timing you can make a car run rich or lean. The leaner the gas the more powerful the engine. If it is to lean it will blow up. Too rich, it will run slow and rough. A three to four timing adjustment increase shouldn't hurt your car and give it more power that you can notice.
The gear is about $120.00 or so getting it put on and set up is not much either. Depending on milage have a new timing belt put on. If you are not thinking on anything radical like an H22, turbo or a bottle all the little things wont hurt. Even if it is .2 sec off your time, your car has gotten a little faster and better looking for about $150.00 total.
