That's like debating whether or not to wipe your ass after you shit.

...do it.

Or give us more details.

I'll even elaborate on this. among various hats that I wear at my job, I'm a valet. Yep, I admit it, but I work at a good place where I drive nice cars like aston martin db9's etc. Anyway, I probably driven at least 50 caddys. I'm just not impressed. The worst one I've ever driven was the model in question, it looked amazing from the outside, but inside it was a travesty of cheap GM execution. Cheap materials, cheap looking and literally parts were falling off the interior. It had 20,000mi on the odo and honestly I've seen far nicer 10yr old lincolns than this car. I dont mean to just bash these cars, but of all the luxury cars, I find the most problems by far with the caddys. Hell, one of our company vehicles is an escalade and I hate it with a passion, everytime I choose a set of keys to grab, I go for the ford expedition. I'm not even a fan of ford either, but there's a big difference in feel.

hey if you like it go for it, some of this is my own personal bias that I've developed, but a lot of it is very honest. If you ever have a question about luxury cars throw me a line I've driven damn near everything. I'd include sports cars, but you really cant get a feel for a Ferrari driving it through a parking lot, I'll admit that.

Well is there anything wrong with the caddy? Is the price good? Miles? Condition? Daily Driver?

If you could get another car for the price, I would.

I've worked on a few CTS's and I will agree with myxomatosis. It feels like a fancy cobalt or G6 to me, I don't like them at all. A CTS-V is a different story but still, the interior feels like crap and it rides like a GM. Pulling interior panels from cars shows you a lot about quality. Hyundai and kia use horrible plastic... GM / domestics are second on that list and the best plastic I encounter on a day to day basis is that of a honda/yota. That ranking is most brittle to softest. VW/Audi are on a different platform.. their plastic rots, it is odd. BMW has a nice heavy build quality but beneath the skin and small panels, they are just the same as your normal honda or yota. Mercedes is not as nice of a quality as most people think, I find them to be overcomplicated for the cheapness of the materials.

i work at a cadillac dealer ship and the cts arent bad cars. the cts-v is a fun car to the sts-v is even more fun. They are pricey tho so that might be outta the price range. They can be made to look nice also. The cts is a whole diffrent car from the inpala or g6 its rides a whole lot softer and they are fun to drive with the bigger v6 in them. lowered on a nice set of rims with a V body kit and you've got a sweet looking ride that most cls wouldnt be able to touch

Cadillacs have been junk since the early to mid ninetys. Especially the northstars. The newer ones are even cheaper made as far as materials go.

don't mean to bash you champstar, because i have a 99 3.0 CL also. but in regards to what others say about quality, I think the CL is not that great either, the 1st gen that is. Mine rattles way too much when i turn the speakers on, even when the speakers were stock. The leather seats look like acura was on a budget, cushion/support is a :thumbsdow. Luxury sports car with barely any support when you hit the corners? Ride quality can be a lot better. Loud and bumpy on stock everything. These observations are based on my experiences only btw.
As for gas mileage, the CL brags 19/29, while the CTS is 19/26. I thought the 04 cts only has 3.2L v6 or 5.7L v8 cts v. how big is the mileage difference? Losing a couple miles on the freeway to be able to drive in a car that is higher in status, looks nicer, better overall? i'm in. i'd say go for the trade if you can get a decent value for the CL.

whoa whoa, wait a minute, the 1st gen is how old now? compare the CL to a cadillac of the same year, no way you could say the caddy would hold together as well as the CL. In fact I would never consider buying a 10yr old American luxury car.

I just dont see how you can base this decision using a 9-11yr old car as an example. Go test drive a new acura and than a cts.

that and I completely disagree with your observations, no rattles in mine. For $5k, I could not possibly buy a car with more value than the CL.

edit; I really dont mean to sound so biased against Cadillac. I just think these two cars cannot really be compared to each other. I would base this decision on your wallet size, since an 04' CTS is probably a lot of money, there's quite a few cars you could buy instead. That being said buy what YOU want, I know my opinion aren't necessarily the best opinion. If I had $10k or so. I probably go for a TL or a CL-s
