3.0 Header Impressions

ok, so I've had my headers installed for a while. I was worried at first about a certain smell under the hodd after I installed them and you all here told me it would go away... Sure enough it went away.

So before I got my headers on a while back after I got off work I decided to try to top out my car. it was 2 am and I went on to a almost deserted highway. only got up to like 120 and it was WAY too windy so I slowed down.

So a little bit ago I decided to try it again with my headers on. It's about 32 degrees here right now. frost on the top of my car and shit. Some big ass diesel F350 or some shit is trying to race me, but I keep pulling away because it's a HUGE ASS TRUCK. Anyways. we were at like 70 and we both gun it adn I just pull away and I put it in D3 so I can take 3rd up to like 120. Normally without the headers this would take me like 15-20 seconds to get from 70 to 120, but as soon as I hit 90 I seemed to start excelerating faster, and I just LOVED how my car screamed with the intake AND the headers now. Anyways, once I hit 90 it seemed like I got a boost or something and I jumped from like 90-110 in like 3 seconds. was freaking crazy and freaked my out so I slowed down.

To sum it up. Headers = hella fun top end = freeway racing wins.

I also just got in my rear rotor slotted rotors "e-coated black to prevent rust", so I'm gonna put those on tommorow and put the fronts on when they get here.

was there a horrible fitment issue with OBX's and was the bend difficult to have someone do?

I actually got the headers used from another memeber on these boards. They weren't bent but were pretty much cut and re-welded with other piping to fit. Probably not really necesary, but from what I've heard teh "new" stone headers bolt right on with no bending, but it is apparently a pretty tight fit.

I got them for ~$225 shipped + $20 for two o-rings for the new headers since they were used and didn't have the included OBX ones.

I would link you to my car domain page, but they are down right now, and it looks like my old file host deleted my shit, so oh well. It's pretty much the goldish-silver color. Kinda like "champaigne", but the official color code is titanium metalic.

Cool bro. I own a 98 cl3.0 and so far, I have intake, low restrictive cat to borla muffler and just with these changes, my car improved so much. I am still having problems accel after 110. It's pretty quick to 100 but then after that, unless its on a flat road, takes forever. Did you also have this problem before you changed your headers? I also heard that 98 accord V6 headers work as well. Is it true?

yeah, the top end has improved a considerable amount after the header install. Not to mention that the throttle response in 3rd gear is so much better now. You know what it's like when it's really really cold out and the car is a lot peppier? Well it's like that all the time now, and even BETTER in teh cold.

Are you taking 3rd up to 120? If you are just leaving it in D4 and letting it shift to 4th at ~100mph, then that might be a bit of a problem. if you leave it in D3 and let it rev to redline, then the torque convertor will lock up and your rpms will drop by about 500 at about 116, then ride it back up to a bit before the rev limiter and put it in D4. that will let it shift into D4 at about 4200 rpms which is a great place for VTEC and it accelerates much better that way in 4th. you can bury the needle a lot faster that way.

This is all theoretical of course.
