1997 CL 2.2 5 spd

Hey guys , new to acuras . I just picked up a 1997 with 180k on it. I noticed the radiator has some green crust forming along the top of the radiator. Have any of you replaced the radiator in your vehicles? Or maybe this is normal? I also have the ABS light on , the guy I bought it from said hes been driving like this for the past five years but said he would have to top off the brake fluid every so often... Im not seeing any leaks as of yet , are the ABS pumps on these a pain to replace ? Anything else I should be aware of on these guys?

TIA
Nick

Hi,

I don't work on my car, and I don't know if it's normal - but when I got my 1998 2.3 with 84k on it the first thing my mechanic did was replace the radiator.

Enjoy the car! Your's looks very nice.

Thanks for the complement Calends and thanks for the honesty on not working on your car. Do you recall what what you paid for the new radiator? Do you still have your 98 ? If so , have you had to have any other repairs done to it?

Thanks Calends

You won't get too many replies since this part of the forum has pretty much died and the car is really old. Still some lurkers but you will be lucky to get an answer the same day much less same week.,

Ive owned my 98 for 11 years now and i haven't had the need to replace my radiator. No leaks or anything. I have replaced the clutch, master slave cylinder, and distributor. Other than that and obvious maintenance like timing belt. No real issues with the manuals.

Thanks for the reply asianspec , how many miles do you have on your 98 now? Also have you had or heard of any issues with the ABS light and pump?

as of today about 198k. I haven't had problems with the ABS or hearing the pump like other had but from searching its common with honda.

Also this a quote from 97BlackackCL from back in the days, He's still around. Im sure he will chime in here sooner or later.

I've replaced 3 wheel speed sensors, and an axle trying to resolve the issue. The other solution is to have your controller module rebuilt by Automotive Scientific Inc. | Quality Rebuilt Automotive Electronics | Rogersville, TN for like $400 this will be my next step. Or replace the whole abs brake pump unit which is over a grand. But if the light comes on everytime you start the car, that means it's throwing a code and you can pull it from the computer, any major carparts store will pull it for you for free, like advanced or autozone. Another couple easy things to check is the positive battery terminal is not coroded, because a loss of power causes the picky abs pump to come on. Also, topping off the brake fluid.
Since the car has been out for almost 2 decades there is alot of information on most of the common problems. Its better to search it first before waiting for an answer here.

I replaced my radiator years ago, it wasn't that bad honestly.

Why do you want to replace the ABS pump, is there an issue or just the light coming on?

Hey 97 , the pump is make a grinding/groaning sound on start up and the light is on on the dash. Im still able to stop , just have that light on and the noise the pump makes when the car is running.
