17's or 18's. The new guy needs help.

Alright everyone. I need some opinions on this.

1998 Black Cl 3.0
Pro-Kit

17's or 18's

I want the car to look good, but I am not into the slammed look (i am too old for that). I will be commuting in the car 60 miles a day, and will have people loaded in it occasionally. I have been into Mustangs and Muscle Cars my whole life.

I have always liked the First Gen Cl and now I am getting one. Will there still be too much gap with the pro-kit and 17's? Pics would be appreciated!

Thanks.

I wrote nearly the same thing when I was looking to drop my car (I'm also too old ).

18's look great, but I've bent 3 rims so far!

I drive 52 miles round trip, and the potholes just kill my rims! :'(

If I had to do it over again, I'm probably go with 17's (but 18's do look great)!

Keep in mind that 18's with a 40 series tire are equivalent to 17's with a 45 series tire and the OEM 16's with a 55 series tire.

The wheel gap is more determined by the springs.

Welcome

I have 17's with the Pro-Kit

I think 18's look better, but I like my ride as smooth as possible without the extra danger of bending a rim like Rick mentioned.

If I had a short commute with brand new roads, I would get 18's.....but I like my 17's alot.

100%

I've got about a 60 mile commute and I'm glad I went with 17's. PM me if you would like to see some pics.

17's, never bent a rim or bubbled a tire. And the roads in my town are horrible. It may not look bling bling, but it looks great in my opinion.

Racinghart C4 three piece

I have Racinghart C2 multi piece 17x7.5 with 225/45/17s on my CL 3.0 and am glad I didn’t get 18s. I tried a 245/40/17 but it was too wide. I ran over a 4x4 piece of lumber in Texas and didn’t bust out my tire. I was sure that it would have done in my rim and tire. I live in DC and the roads get very bad after winter with all the potholes. 18s if you have great roads. I use my CL more like and SUV than most so I need the utility of the higher profile. I'm looking to get new rims soon because mine are almost five years old. As far as I know DAZZ doesn't carry 17s in the multi anymore. Is anybody running 8 inch wide rims and what's the offset?

17s. 18s are just for show. The CL isn't an Escalade.

17's are my choice

i think they ride better than 18", less wheel noise, and if you run a 45 series tire, im running a 225/45/17 wynstar tire and they ride smooth and they are a couple of lbs. lighter than a 18"

if your a 3.0, 18's are too much weight and 17's look just as good with 45 series tires, dont get 40 series tires cause you are more liable to get a rims bent or 2 from a nasty pothole like most said

click in my SIG for pics of my 17's
