ADX six months later.....
ADX six months later.....
I just realized we have had our ADX for six months now and was reflecting on what I felt about the car after all this time. Its pretty simple, really, I love it. (other car is a '19 RDX). For local running around I actually prefer the ADX for many reasons with the top reason being it just drives so well. Its a smooth vehicle that steers, brakes and handles nicely. It just has a good "feel" to it. Its not a "race car" by any means but for my local driving it doesn't have to be. It does have enough power to "keep up with traffic" without issue. I think it feels even better now after a few thousand miles. What is interesting is to compare it with its HR-V cousin. There is a world of difference. That turbo engine gives the ADX version about 50% greater torque at lower RPM's. You can tell the difference!
As for the CVT; some dislike them but I actually enjoy it for what it is. Running around town with lots of stop and go traffic its just so smooth. My RDX can feel a bit "rough" next to it with all those gear changes going on. Of course if you want to "drag race" the RDX is fun with its quick shifts but the ADX's CVT in local traffic is just a slick little gear box. Some worry about the durability of the CTV. I don't. The ADS uses a drive train from Honda models like the CR-V and Accord. This engine and transmission has been used in a million or so vehicles and is well proven and matured. Honda has had lots of time to really tune this thing in.
The brakes on the ADX feel really great. They are so smooth and seem quite powerful. I have had to "test" them a few times in traffic and they performed very well. This vehicle may have been based on a Honda HR-V but the Acura team really stepped up their game and elevate this up from the Honda version.
Let me be clear, no car is perfect. I could write a (small) l list of things I would change about the car, but that has been true for every vehicle I have ever owned. Maybe it was living and driving in Germany on those Autobahns and mountain roads in the Alps in my Euro sports cars that made handling and "feel" so important to me. This car feels pretty good to me.
My six month milestone is all good. I like the car more now than when I got it. There are a lot of good choices out there but I am quite happy with the ADX and would buy it again.

Very good thoughts; I have had my ADX for four months and I concur. While it may not be a race car, I have been very impressed when I take it out on curvy backroads and, using sport mode with the shifter at 'S', I use the paddle shifters. The change in transmission ratios is ultra quick and precise and allows the VTEC, the sport tuned suspension and steering to really come into play. I am very pleased with all aspects of the ADX.
Like OP, I'm a current RDX owner (but first gen). Looking for a new car but deciding between the following: ADX, Integra, Civic CVT Sport (not Hybrid)... As one can tell, am looking at gasoline powered vehicles solely.
All the cheaper Acura/Honda ICE vehicle these days have CVT. Having owned a first Gen RDX, am not as concerned as the turbo engine(s). However, having not driven or owned CVTs give me a little pause. Hope you guys can help out some concerns:
Q1: Are the CVTs of the ADX, Integra and Civic all the same? I am asking since of the 3, Civic CVT has existed the longest - so that might be something useful to see reliability patterns or issues? All 3 CVTs seem to be made in Mexico as well
Q2: Civic is clearly the cheapest, ADX most expensive. Again, having read the CVT needs to be paired with "weaker engines", it would seem like CVT is not "as suitable" for the ADX given the weight, AWD config? I could be wrong on this - maybe CVT's are "more durable" than what I thought (eg It is used in the CR-V as well)
Q3: Am all too familiar with the rattles being "par for the course" for Acuras and Hondas - and as a current RDX owner, I've seen my fair share (but I lucked out with just using felt on the dash rattle on my first gen). How is build quality, especially with the ADX being, again, built in Mexico?
Q4: What led you to choose ADX over Integra - I suspect the ride height and AWD configuration... But I could be wrong...
Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the additonal post (am new here and an old fogey in tech), not sure how to edit - but essentially, if it's not yet obvious, am concerned about the durability of the CVT's for all Acuras and Hondas. ADX, Integras and Civic. The failure of the CVTs in the HR-Vs in the late 2010's gave me a bad impression of the CVT transmission...
I really like the looks of the ADX and the Integra as a complement to each other for a young family, second vehicle, or empty nesters. I'm looking to replace the wife's 18 RLX sport hybrid in a few years. She really likes and wants to stick with the hybrid powertrain because of nice balance of power+mpgs living +5000 feet and 75-80 mph hwy speeds. She still misses her old 2008 RDX Tech because of the utility, shorter overall length for parking, better 360 degree visibility with the CUV, and higher sitting position (she doesn't miss 18-20 mpgs on 91 octane). We would probably go with the ADX or next gen RDX if either vehicle had a hybrid powertrain option. We had a 06 TSX ASpec with 205hp/164tq 2.4L 5AT at 3350lbs and that didn't have enough power for us compared to our later purchased 08 RDX or 11 MDX in all situations.
