I used the most generic hand pump from Autozone kinda like this one:
Name: Fluidchanges023.jpg
Views: 2904
Size: 101.1 KB

Here is one in Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Plews-55001-Lubrimatic-Standard-Bottles/dp/B000BQW5LK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1491599564&sr=8-2&keywords=Oil+hand+pump

It worked like a charm.
You cant overfill the Rear Diff as it has an overflow design which means that top it off you must pump until oil starts dripping out of the fill hole.

Since you don´t mention which car you have you must use different fluids for 1G or 2G MDX.
1G Uses 3 quarts of VTM4 Fluid: 08200-9003 but its sold as a Gallon:

2G Uses 3 quarts of AWD DPSF Fluid: 08200-9007A Sold by the quarts:

DIY Procedure:

Parts Needed:
3/8th Extension or Extensions
Ratchet
Breaker Bar or Cheater Bar if it has been torqued to 31lb-ft (OEM) Specs
3 quarts of VTM4 or AWD DPSF Fluid
Hand Pump
Oil Drain Pan
Washers for the Diff (18mm and 20mm If I recall correctly for the SH-AWD Diff; Check with your Dealer for specifics).

Both diffs uses the same procedure to change them:
1.- Level the car to the ground
2.- Remove the upper fill plug (There is a hole in the lower subframe to access the Top Fill Plug you cant miss it)
3.- Remove the Drain Bolt and catch the fluid
4.- Close the Drain Bolt to up 25-28lb ft (Hand Tight)
5.- Fill the diff with fluid until it overflows from the top
X.- (Optional): Close the fill plug (Hand tight do not torque yet) and go for a drive and top it off if the fluid level lowered < I never do this as my fluid level never changes.
6.- Close the fill plug to 25-28lb-ft and you are DONE! Congrats you just changed your diff fluid.

PRO TIP #1: If you have an early 2G MDX 2007-2009 the owners manual will mention they use HONDA Z1 ATF fluid for the Rear Diff but Honda discontinued Z1 in early 2011 so your 2G MDX with SH-AWD now uses AWD DPSF 08200-9007A!! Do NOT use ATF DW-1 for the Diff as its not meant for diff duty.

PRO TIP #2: Do not tighten the Drain or Fill bolts up to the manual 31lb-ft.. Its simply just too tight and it will make it harder to remove next time, Tighten to 25-28lb-ft and that´s enough. Next time you change it the bolts will be removed more easily than the BREAKER BAR Only 31lb-ft change.

Hope this helps you out!

If it was any other Part Number you will be correct, That "A" only means Acura in a lot of cases but in this case:

The difference is that one is made for your car and the other is not.
Honda DPSFII (Dual Pump System Fluid II) is designed to work with the far lesser system used in the Honda CR-V AWD which uses a different Differential system than the SH-AWD. The CR-V Diff uses a direct coupling wet clutch to send power to the rear wheels which means the oil has to have lots of anti-slip properties in order to hold the direct drive from the diff to the wheel.

Acura AWD DPSF was designed to work with SH-AWD Differentials.
The SH-AWD Differential is a Different Animal all together, since it can over-drive the rear wheels in order to Torque Vector through a corner it has a set of Sun and Planetary gear sets for transmission. The Clutch Disks only function as a Stop Mechanism to hold the Planetary Gear set in order to overdrive the Specific Wheel.. This means the Oil has to have more Gear Protection than Anti-Slip properties.

You can have both side to side and immediately notice that:
1.- Color is Different, SH-AWD is a Caramel Color while Honda DPSF II has a Dark Tint.
2.- Smell is Different, SH-AWD has a Strong Synthetic smell while DPSF II has a normal ATF Smell to It.

In Summary..
DO NOT USE HONDA DPSF II FLUID.
Use only Acura AWD DPSF 08200-9007A.
They are not interchangeable and do not Trust a Honda Service Clerk telling you it will... Acura AWD DPSF is not a Repackaged Honda DPSFII in any way shape or form.

Time to ressurect this old post. I called 3 Acura and one Honda dealer and had mixed info.
2 Acura dealer said to just buy DPSF from honda and that it is the same thing.
1 Gave me the number 08200-9007AC and said that I could order it from my honda dealer
The Honda Dealer said it was the same thing and that he had plenty. I insisted to get the Acura fluid with the part number and he will charge 15$ chipping if he can get some.

I will try to contact Acura Canada directly to ave a definitive answer.

I used this to replace the differential fluid in my 08 MDX. Got it for 5 bucks at the local Advance Auto:
