Tires for 2010 MDX

I am looking to replace the tires on my 2010 MDX Tech. It has 40K miles on it - starting from around 32-35K miles they started becoming loud and now it's just too unbearable. I was planning to drive on these tires till 45K but now I don't think I can even take another 1000 miles on these original (Michelin Latitude) tires.

Looking at the reviews on tire rack I have short listed these. Anyone here has had a positive or negative experience with any of theses:

Continental Cross Contact with LX 20.
Pirelli Scorpion Verde
Firestone Destination ST
Continental Extreme Contact DWS

Thanks in advance.

the DWS tires are a bit soft in the sidewall for a 4500lbs SUV. great tires for a sedan (i have them on my TL). not on my short list of tires i would pick for my MDX when the need arises.

the cross contacts are relatively new, but heard good things about them.
the pirelli's are a good tire (again this is all heresay)
firestone's-i know nothing about them

others to consider: the general grabbers or the bridgstone dueler alenzas (the higher ranked ones)

do a search here and on the mdxers forum and see what the general concensus is. my brother as has the generals on his MDX. he likes them. good tire for a good price handles well in all conditions.

a tirerack search/review narrowed down to the MDX or even the RDX might give you a better idea of how other owners felt about them.

Thanks! The General Grabber definitely looks promising.

I have the Conti DWS on my RDX and TSX. Great tire for my TSX: less noise, good grip, longer treadlife, can cross rotate for longer life, cheaper price compared to OEM tires. The same is true for the RDX with exception of:

- I will not see 50,000 miles with the sh-awd, I will be lucky to see 35,000 miles. I'm at 5/10 to 6/10 with only 20,000 miles on the tire. The "S" on the "DWS" for snow traction is really starting to wear off on the tread.

- I had a flat from a nail in the middle of the tread about a week ago, the tire went to 0 PSI in matter of 45 -60 seconds and it only took me a mile total to slow down on the hwy and pull off the road on the next exit. The tire already had rips in the sidewall from riding on the rim at 0 PSI. If the tire had a stronger sidewall, I might have been able to repair instead of replacing the tire with road hazard warranty. I had to purchase a 2nd new tire to match the replaced flat tire because the existing tire tread on the other 3 tires was too worn to match evenly ($290 for 2 new tires, lifetime balance, re-establish warranty, tax). At least I now have an extra Conti DWS to use as a full size spare.

- There is no built-in rubber rim guard against curbs for the RDX Conti compared to the TSX Conti, might be true for MDX (small gripe).

- The Conti have a hard time keeping tire shine on them, they always look a little spotty/patchy when clean compared to OEM or Bridgestones 960s I've owned.

- I push my RDX and TSX in the corners kinda hard sometimes, and I notice the outside tread is wearing more compared to the middle of the tire. I think it is because of the soft side walls and the tire rolling a bit. I might have to replace the tires earlier because of this extra wear on both cars.

- The Conti tires are not as quiet on RDX compared to the TSX on the same road. They are still a big improvement over OEM. I think it is the higher ground clearance and lack of sound insulation. I know the MDX has more sound insulation compared to the RDX, this may not be as big as an issue for you.

Most problems listed above are just the way I drive except for the flats tire experience. Lucky for me there is a Discount tire store in every city I visit in the southwest.

Thanks for all the inputs. I have ordered the General Grabbers. Will give my feedback when I put them on my MDX.

Got the General Grabbers HTS installed today. Right away the noise level was reduced but that was no surprise as the noise level before was really high. But compared to the noise level of the new Michelins the Grabbers are clearly noisier. In fact the loaner MDX I had today had the original Michelin (Latitude) with 10K miles and they were definitely quieter. I hope the noise level with the Generals doesn't become annoying too soon. Even if I get 20 K without it becoming too noisy i won't feel too bad as they were just half the price of the Michelins and I barely got 40K out of the Michelins. The Generals are quite comfortable though. Let me see how they continue to fare.

I ordered the Pirellis Scorpion Verdes based on great online reviews. I returned them after one week of use. Tires were louder than old OEM Michellins with 40K miles. Ride was stiffer and rough and they squealed when making a right turn. White noise between 30-50 Mph was louder than driving with windows open.
