Thinking about getting a new key for 2010 MDX - Advice

Hey guys - we've only had our MDX for a couple months, but only got one key with her. Not a big deal as the better half and I are usually going to the same place, but it would be nice to each have a key. What's my best (cheapest) route to getting a 2nd key? I have trouble believing I can buy a key off of amazon and between a locksmith and the dealer get it working for less than $100, but maybe that actually works?? What say you!

Give Tim Poliniak a call and tell him you are from the MDX forum. He can get your VIN and cut it I believe. Cant remember the exact price, but he was cheap when I called.

I just ordered a second key from Tim.. I was mistaken about him cutting it.. he cannot and you have to have it programmed by the dealer.. which doesn't bother me b/c one of our friends owns a dealership.

So, $48 + tax for me. someone else would have to get it cut by a locksmith or dealer and programmed. Think he said it was .5 hrs.

So, should I still call him?

All depends if you know how much you want to pay.

I'd call your locksmith or dealer to see how much they charge for cutting and programming and call Tim to see how much a 2010 key is... there may be a difference in price.

Well I called the local dealer and got quoted a price of $148 for the key and programming. Maybe that's a lot, but it sounds reasonable to me - a couple years ago we tried to get a 2nd key made for a used Camry LE and the Toyota dealer wanted $400!!!
